Not a fan of this...

I am not usually one to complain about new updates, although I did complain quite a bit about the Photo Gallery feature.

I do not see why this update is necessary. I do not use 1024x768, I use 1440x900. I have made literally hundreds (600+) of pages using that format, and it would be an enormous effort to go back and adjust them so that the images won't be cut off. Did anyone actually ask for this, or is this to make things easier for a few people?

For an example of what I am talking about, you can look at my work on the CSI Wiki:
http://csi.wetpaint.com/page/CSI+Screencaps

12,000+ individual images uploaded to over 600 pages and counting...

While it may make things fit better on smaller screens, they will look horribly cramped on bigger ones.
You need to keep the dynamic resizing so you can fit the needs of all resolutions, not just one.

If it aint' broke, don't fix it.

Changing the the 1024 X 768 format will allow ALL to view a page without having to horizontally scroll to see the entire content of the page. I am in favor of this standard being put into place. It has nothing to do with how large a monitor is. Wetpaint never had dynamic (liquid) resizing.

If it ain't broke ....fix it until it is.

I am saying that it is too small.
It would be alright if the site navigation menu weren't included in the measurements, but as it is it pushes things to the side.
There are going to be a lot more people than me angry about this one, the only reason they haven't said anything yet is because they probably won't know until it happens.

I saw, and I have seen it in a smaller browser too.

It is not that hard to scroll to the right. I have a friend who does it almost the same way, and I am sure they won't be happy about this either.

Most every page on all my wikis, with the exception of iFrame use, can be viewed without horizontally scrolling to view the page. It was what I learned early, in Web page design, called design etiquette.

I am sorry you missed out on the experience of having to create two different sets of code for your website to be compatible with Internet Explorer and Netscape. That was fun.

No no no this all seems over the top and unneccessary it will mean hours upon hours of redoing pages and many wetpaint users will probbly just give up!

I also noticed the page saying it would make things more attractive, isn't that a matter of opinion?

any pages I have ever done have wide tables (not sure exactly) and that's because the biger the picture the clearer and the clearer the better

Going back to school, in a lot of papers they ask you to list pros and cons.
This page only lists pros, but no cons. I'd say that the cons far outweigh the pros in so many ways...I think there is literally going to be an explosion of complaints far surpassing that of the word censoring when and if this follows through.

Thanks guys.

These are just complaints from #10 & 95 on the Wetpaint 500. As far as I know, no wikis received a special e-mail in advance warning them of this, so when it happens, they will log in and wonder why their screens are cut in half. Not many people pay too much attention to small notices on Wetpaint Central.

I totally agree with you Phillip, and i am not happy with this future change one bit, i like you have numerous pages of screencapture images, not to mention loads of other pages that i might loose stuff off, pages that took many many hours to construct and collect information for. How the hell are we supposed to be able to back track readjusting pages just to fit the new format when our site has over 1500 Pages to check????

I work on a wide screen monitor, as seems to be the trend now a days and now i suspect most PC/Laptop users will use in the future, most new PC/Laptop models are in wide screen format as are TV's so why go narrower?

Another thing home pages take a hell of a lot of time to consruct, are we now to loose some of that too, because i for one will not be very pleased as it has taken me over a year to build ours!

I second the 'If it aint' broke, don't fix it.'

Date to be announced.
They are not sure yet, this is why we need some moment early on before they can put it in effect.

So basically we wont get that much warning to even try to put things right, this is going to totally ruin my site - i am so upset about this latest development.

yes a hell of a lot to loose, for our site thats for sure, i have to say i am disappointed at wetpaint for even thinking of doing this latest upgrade whatever it is.

Its bad enough that our members have had a lot of sign in problems of late since the whole windows live, facebook thing was added without us now facing this major problem.

When I first joined Wetpaint. I went through the help files before I started to make my wiki. Low and behold, I came upon this page. I think the creation date was mar 4 2008.

http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/Screen+Resolution

And I have followed that page ever since.

Philip, the page you referenced was created a month later in April of 2008. So Wetaint Central's recommendations have been in place for a long time.
And the consequences are: you may have to re-visit all those pages and resize the images.
