Private Sites Whole Again
Oct 2 2009, 1:14 PM EDT
We need Private sites back in tact. Removing private features for invites nullifies the private feature. Can't you find some way to work around whatever issues you had with this, besides opening up the site to the public? I don't think you can reasonably market the private feature when you can only add members in public mode.
Do you find this valuable?

I am sorry, but wetpaint has removed the option to invite people onto private sites. I know this is a pain for private site creators, however, all you need to do is keep your site public for an hour or so. This is a very short amount of time. Then, once your members join, you can turn the site private again. Your site will not be seen by many people, and chances are, no one will see your private site for the hour it is public. Search engines do not add private sites to the engine in the first place, and if the site is opened for an hour or so and turned private again, Search Engines will not have time to add the site. This usually takes a few days to do.

3. NOT a solution

I may send the invitation out, and it may take 1-2 days for must customer to join. I may have to check the site every hour for days to know when to turn the site private again. And then when we add a new customer/user, we have to do it all over again. The "go public temporarily" is NOT A SOLUTION!!!! Do you find this valuable? |

I presume that Wetpaint do this to get more money from advertisements. Which they have a right too. Not only because it's their site, but because they don't charge people to use their features. Not many sites as good as Wetpaint do that.I do think however, that if you pay to go ad-free, then you should be able to have a fully private site. If the reason is advertisements. Which I think it is. Do you find this valuable? |
