Wetpaint just removed the option to join by accepting an invite. From now on, everytime you want somebody to join, you'll have to make your site public, then make it private again. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.See http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/thread/3303758/Invites+and+Private+Sites+-+not+working 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I believe it was canceled because it was too hard to keep up with the coding. But if you want to know the actuall answer, you will have to contact one of the Wetpaint employees.

"So I created a site, and then made it private (on settings/permissions). Then I sent invitations to people to join, but they were unable to join. Why is this? Can I only make a site private after I have the members that I want?Hi anon and PM, A number of us are quite angry about this change. Wetpaint has truly left many people in the lurch. You can get more info by contacting sbwetpaint@gmail.com. (SB is an acronym for a memorable offensive term). Other members of the Wetpaint forum who don't know what it's like to have a private site right now, please don't attempt to censor my communication with anon. Either Wetpaint Central is an open forum where people can communicate freely or it is a censored tool of a selfish profit-motivated company. I think that it is an open forum, but if it ever changes, I hope that you will feel as betrayed as we do. Wetpaint may have underestimated just how much we have invested in our wikis and how much they have hurt us. Please Wetpaint, give us a real workaround. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

After reading up on the change, it's likely we'll stop using Wetpaint. I have a hard enough time trying to urge people to use wikis that even the slightest inconvenience is enough of a barrier for them to avoid this altogether. Plus, they're very concerned about security and making the site 'open' for even a short while goes against our own internal policies. Too much liability. That said, Wetpaint was a free service and the company is clearly entitled to make whatever changes it wants. And if private sites aren't a priority because they don't generate revenue, it's hard to blame them for doing so. For Wetpaint's sake, one can only assume that the cost of losing private-site corporate wiki users such as myself - and the negative publicity - is dwarfed by the efforts to focus on the revenue-generating public sites. It's just business.

Look, Wetpaint is working hard to improve it's service. And if you can't even appreciate that and go complaining, then leave. We are tired of all these complaints about Private Sites Invites. Do you find this valuable? |

I would therefore encourage you to not read them. I know that I don't read all of the the threads on Wetpaint Central, and there is nothing forcing you to read them. Regarding your request that we leave, with all due respect, we are just trying to air our grievances. We are following forum rules as best we can (or at least I am). The bottom line is that either this is a censored forum or it isn't. At present, it isn't. Anon, above, I hear your pain. I'm much less sympathetic, though. My understanding is that when a good company lays people off, it will often have some sort of severance package. That money comes straight out of it's bottom line, but it does it to maintain the goodwill of it's remaining employees (at least, that's my understanding). I don't see any attempt at making some sort of "severance package" by Wetpaint. You say that you are having to leave Wetpaint and start over. I think that they should at least talk to us and tell us what workarounds they have attempted. There must be a million things that they could try. Do you find this valuable? |

Giving people info and preventing uproars, like I do, even though I am not a Mod. I am the same way, and i'm sure all the Mods, and Jeremy are tired of everyone complaining about this. I keep telling everyone to stop complaining. I believe, in the link he posted, Crying Dove posted a link that could help, and there is info on why they did this, posted by me, and I believe one of the Mods. ~Naru2008 Do you find this valuable? |

Think of it this way. At least 75% percent of people on Wetpaint have a Public site. Just simply make your site public until the needed people join, and if unwanted people join, ban them. Then make your site private again.

HiI will be looking for another site. Ours is a school reunion site and people have posted information they are happy to share with people they know, not in a public forum. Also, it would have helped to have been advised by email about the changes. Do you find this valuable? |

Further point: it is a pity you have made this change. The site was a very promising one.

I've posted this on another thread but I'm posting this again because I'm extremely angered by the increasing number of complaints about Private Sites and Invites everyday. Now this is the time when SiteMeter comes in handy. Set up a SiteMeter account for your site. Everytime you make your site public for someone to join, check the SiteMeter account. If you see someone who shouldn't be visiting you site and is visiting, IP Ban(http://tinyurl.com/ycgdp9o) them. Do you find this valuable? |

And my 20 bucks a month for ad removal will go with me. You're tired? I'm exhausted having had to explain this unforeseen and unannounced development to my boss. This ain't a service improvement. It's a service downgrade. Anyone with a private wiki will tell you that. Do you find this valuable? |

"I think you will find that a lot of people who set up private wiki site will take your advice and leave.Okay, this Private Support crap was over 100 weeks ago! ( Exageration. ) Wetpaint got rid of this service because the people who make the ads don't know how much traffic the ad and the site gets. We gave you work arounds for this, but if you are not satisfied, then stop complaining time and time again, saying you'll leave, then leave. I am sure I am not the only one who is so tired of all these complaints. Below i'm going to post what I posted somewhere else. What I posted: " There was so much complaining about problems and small little glitches. All of you wanted something done, they did something, they got rid of it. But, that is not the only reason. The people who make the ads don't know how much traffic the site gets, so, they can't get paid. " -Alex, WPC RU. Do you find this valuable? |
