Suggestion

Well this is more of a community suggestion than anything else, and though it could be easily made through a page or thread, I think it might help make things easier. =)

I'm suggesting a possibility for a Clubs/Groups/Guilds section (Any one of those names is suitable). It'd make different groups more indistinct, and cause less confusion with newer members. There would also be a variety of features that would come along with it, and different allowances for different users. I have my own general idea for how it could work, but you can go ahead and make your own suggestions to support mine ^^

First off, it's an option. So if you don't want groups or guilds as part of your site, you can easily enable/disable them.

Then, there would be the difference in who can create/lead the groups or guilds. I think that only Moderators or above could create and lead them, but Writers can edit them, and Registered Users could post in them.

I personally think of these groups or guilds as sub-parts to each site. There would be pages you can edit and make colorful with pictures and widgets, tables and pretty text, all of that stuff, as well as a place to post threads, and everything else you'd find in the overall site. Almost like a mini-site.

I know it'd probably be a lot of work, but hopefully this idea will be accepted.
Anyway, that's all I have on this idea for now. Please post feedback, or other supporting suggestions.
Thank you.

Can you explain, what is preventing you from doing that now with a Wetpaint wiki. You can make pages that are only editable by admins or mods (locked pages ). From those locked pages you can have sub-pages where only registered members can edit those pages. And you can direct any thread to a page into specific categories defined by the Admins and Moderators of the site.

Setting up the site into a structure as you described, a mini site within a site can also be accomplished via creating another site, with restrictions to entry (writers only or private site). Then embedding that site into a page on your main wiki with the use of an iframe widget.

The main site structure can lead new members in directions to the main site or to the guild site from the home page or an index page with simple links.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding what you are seeking.

It's a little bit hard to explain, but for more... broad and generalized sites that involve more with the community, it can be rather helpful. These "Sub-Sites" are more like clubs in a way.

So, let's say you want to make a site on.. anime. There are thousands of anime shows altogether, and for the users who want to be more involved with certain animes, rather than having to stick with what the Creators set up to start with, they could create a smaller group of users, like a club, that involves the main topic of the site, but is more specific. So if you had an anime site, and someone who really loves a certain type of anime that's not exactly specialized in the overall site, could make a group just for that particular area. Like, Bleach for example. Then, more people who really love just that anime, could join in, and become like a sub-community.

I think why it's harder to specialize clubs and certain groups in the overall site pages, is because of how the threads tangle with other threads in the Discussion Forum, and with other pages sometimes.
