Moderator erasing members without Banning?
Sep 24 2009, 7:55 AM EDT
I wish to, As Moderator/Creator for my site, be able to cancel inactive members from my site member list, but without banning them. Is this possible, and if so, how do I do this. I know the members can cancel but I find no way for the moderator to cancel them.

You can't do it without banning them. Unless you have their password.Chrisco97 1 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

Banned members won't show up on the wiki members list either.

tyvm though it would help us moderators clean up our member lists if we could do this without banning. Perhaps a moderator command that makes the member "Inactive" not "banned". A returning member finding themselves "banned" could be insulted and choose Not to return to my game. Consider this a suggestion for a future command button in the moderator toolset and I will merely ban those I must and email them as to the purpose behind it.

Basically, you want inactive members to be removed from the members report, but still have the option to sign in again and be active if they decide to return to your wiki?

Yes, a member of my site does nothing wrong, but must be inactive for a long period of time, I would like to be able to place them as inactive until they can re-apply to join my site. If I ban them they get a nasty gram, (I think), and they can't reapply when they return. At least this is my understanding.

A user that is banned does not receive any notification of this action, they simply can no longer sign in on the site. One of the problems of just allowing users to be removed from a site is that there would be no record of them. This could come as a surprise to a member that decides to log in and finds that they are no longer a member of one of their sites.

Sometimes there needs to be a "cooling off" period for some members who have a tiff....it would be good to beable to have this "Inactive" command and be able to choose how long...if you have to have them"Inactive" for too long you may as well ban them....how about a choice of 2 days, 4 days, 5 days, 1 week..2weeks..3weeks...?The "Inative" command could also be for as is says "Inactive" but another command with THAT word...it could work for both things. I agree with Wmglen55, banning someone for the wrong reason (and other reasons that are petty or just plan heavy handed ) is soul destroying, humiliating and embarracing. Do you find this valuable? |
