SOMEONE HACKED MY SITE!!!!

my site is truewarriorcats5.wetpaint.com and i think someone hacked 2 of the admins of the site's accounts(swiftnose4 and fieceheart22). they went around and demoted all the moderators+ except for the 2 that they were using to hack with and all the writers but one to registered user(under username swiftnose4), then deleted everything off the main/important pages(under username fierceheart22). i know personally(in real life) the two members and trust them, and they would NEVER do that. can my site and all the member ranks be restored??!?! help please(quickly) before more pages get hacked!!

The Wetpaint employees are likely in bed, so no one would be able to access the Wetpaint account. The only thing I could ask of you right now is to message Jeremy_wetpaint and stay clam. I'm sure things will be worked out tomorrow. Do you find this valuable? |

I guess I could give you some advice/suggestions for feature reference. 1. I always feel it is good to have someone who has the role of creator on a wiki. As long as they can be contacted or come to the site eventually, things can be restored. So it may be possible for you to consider making a new site. 2. Try making an administrator account, then hiding it from the members list. You can do so by going to your accounts profile, selecting Preferences (Which will be found under the tabs.), then Do not list my username in the Site Members report, or as a sender for the New Member Message. Hackers usually are not aware of the accounts existence or won't have time to find it. 3. If you notice members are being demoted and banned, however you haven't been demoted yet. Demote all your admins as fast as you can. That way you get anyone that can possibly be involved. After things seem okay, promote everyone to moderators monitor their activities and ask them to change their passwords. If they start deleting, ban them. Most hackers will not play pretend and try to role play, but they still try to use the account later. So that is why it would be essential for your members to change their passwords. For your friends. It would be best for them to create new accounts. The hackers likely have control now, meaning their accounts are not safe. They need to be sure to change their passwords to something different, but at the same time more difficult. Do you find this valuable? |

Once the person responsible is banned, it will be a simple matter of restoring the pages. All will be as though it never happened, so there is no need to panic.

Have you talked with your friend fierceheart22? It appears they may have done this along with swiftnose4 of their own free will. http://truewarriorcats5.wetpaint.com/account/RobinStorm/thread/3228717/whats+up This thread was made on a users profile, it clearly shows fierceheart22's dislike for the conduct around the site. Then with the newly posted message on the homepage expressing their dislike for what the site has become. I'm not trying to accuse them, but it does seem they have some kind of motive. 20 minutes after that thread was created pages started getting deleted, I highly doubt in that time not one but two members could get hacked. If they were behind this, they likely kept you out of the loop because they knew you would try to stop them. Do you find this valuable? |

If they're your personal friends in "real life" I would suggest talking to them--that should clear things up about why they would do it if they did it. Also, CaptainSpaz said this, but once everything has calmed down and you're promoted again you can go to a deleted page and click "restore" which will automatically restore the page to what it was right before it was deleted. If they completely defiled the page before they deleted it, go to the page history to the last version that is good and copy and paste it onto the real version.

This thread can be locked. It was as a expected, the user fierceheart22 did this of their own free will to take the drama out of their site. If you visit the site, such replies have been made to other users. Since no one was actually hacked, there is no reason for this discussion to continue.
