New and accurate information:I have added information on how to delete a category on the following page: http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/Forum+Categories First thing I said:Are you talking about the bar near the top with Home, Discussions, Photos etc? Since there is so many features in Wetpaint now, they have to be put in those categories. I would like an option to remove eg. videos, droplets since I don't use those features that much. Do you find this valuable? |

Oh right, its been a while since I have been on Wetpaint. To delete a category, go to it and press moderator tools, delete category. That should do it =)That way you can keep everything in one category. Do you find this valuable? |

So....On RWW we have ALL our threads on one category. We want ZERO categories, but we're afraid to delete it in case it gets rid of EVERY thread we have.

I can definitely see the use of a feature like this on a site with no pages, such as a forum website. But Wetpaint sites have pages in addition to forums (obviously XD), which renders this new feature pretty much pointless, from where I'm standing. =\ No offense intended, of course. It would be nice if this feature could be made optional for those who don't want it.

Half think it is great, half think it is useless. Do you find this valuable? |

I HATE IT espessially how it doesn't tell you where the thread is from so i have to check every single thread to know what to reply to and what not to

"I HATE IT espessially how it doesn't tell you where the thread is from so i have to check every single thread to know what to reply to and what not to"Thanks for pointing this out. I can see how knowing the page location for a thread would still be important. I'll talk to the development team and see if there is something we can do about that. The ability to categorize threads is a standard feature of forums/bulletin boards. On many Wetpaint sites, there are thousands of threads. Without the ability to categorize them, a lot of threads just get lost in a sea of posts. We think that users will find the ability to categorize threads very useful once they try it out and adjust to the differences. It seems to be primarily the roleplayers that are unhappy with categories. You may need to modify the way you use the forum, but I think you will find it easier to keep threads organized once you get used to the changes. Try this for example - create a category for an active roleplay story and create categories for old roleplay story lines so you can move threads there when you are done with a particular story line. But that is practically pointless. Can you point out any pro's that outweigh the con's? Everyone on Running With Wolves, as Callin and Tawnyleaf pointed out, is in an uproar. The old setup was much more efficient, and it worked and ran much smoother. And there are sort of little green things under the threads. Is it a glitch? Who knows because we can't really tell because it takes us five minutes to get through the friggin 'general, and off-topic discussion forums' What is an off topic forum, anyway? I can see how moving the older threads and plot lines might work, but we are practically so used to our old setup, that we could do it in our sleep ^^ But for now, until Wetpaint actually reviews this, we will have to grow accustomed to this design too. I'll pass the message of all you've said onto our role-players over at Running With Wolves, and hopefully they stop having a tantrum. ~Midnight_Wolf414 Administrator of Running With Wolves. Here's a screenshot of the green things I mentioned :/For some reason Wetpaint doesn't like HTML or codes, so I can't do a clickable link, just copy and paste =] http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg171/MrsSweeneyTodd/Screenshotforwetpaintadmin.jpg Do you find this valuable? |

I don't mean to be critical on the Wetpaint Development Team, but this update was something that has almost never been desired by the Wetpaint community. Things such as knowing who is online and private pages are highly suggested and are much needed. This update has a lot of cons, with a large number of role playing sites posting their displeasure. I want to use categories, but when I think about it... What is the point? This app serves no purpose other then organizing your threads. It will increase the chances of you finding threads lost in a sea of posts sure, but I mean really you are going to reply to the new ones as it is, and probably don't care much for lost threads to begin with. You figure that if you get maybe 25 different threads and they all fit in one category, there is a likely chance threads will still be lost. So this doesn't fully solve the problem of lost threads. Established popular sites are probably unhappy, we have thousands of threads, and you expect us to sort them? I mean we probably want to sort them, but that will take a long time. If you were to make a new site, this update wouldn't be bad I guess, since absolutely everything would be nice and organized. However large sites like Warrior Cat Clans 2, Narutofan1010, The Tudors Wiki, and many more will almost never be fully organized. Sites like ours will probably just have the two category since moving a large number of threads into appropriate categorizes would just be a pain. To be honest the time you spent on this addition, could have been valuable time towards more desired additions. Do you find this valuable? |
