New Discussion Forum Categories
Aug 11 2009, 3:50 AM EDT | Post edited: Aug 11 2009, 3:54 AM EDT
Well, Wetpaint has released the latest update, and it seems to be the discussion forum categories and Twitter updates in the "News" section. Moderators and Admins are now enabled to add categories to the discussion forum, instead of having many pages with support answers. Users can add a thread to any page, and they can also pick a category, such as "General Discussion," or a custom made one, such as "Wetpaint Support." The Discussions module has also been added to the discussions page.

Along with all of the new additions, the "News" section of your site now takes any Tweets about a user. This can be added easily when adding a News feed.

Otherwise that's all I know about the new update. Tell WP what you think!

Here is a page about the update: http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/08%2F10%2F2009+-+release
Anyway, the new update is pretty cool, IMO. I like the categories. Makes the discussion forum look more like a real forum. Overall, nice job wetpaint!

I'm going to be using that Discussion Forum feature all the time. A great tool for RP sites.

Thanks Wetpaint!

Looks like they have a bug with the "Post Edit" text. Take a look at all our responses, they just say "Post Edit:"

Also, there is a problem. When you post something, the avatar is too small.. It looks weird. Do you find this valuable?

Discussion forum categories will come in handy. Thanks Wetpaint. Something that needs changing - Having the "Watch this thread / page" tickbox unticked by default. Do you find this valuable?

It really organizes the entire discussion forum, I am really liking the new release, although, I do see a few problems with something, once the "site mantience" was completed Wetpaint Classified Ads had ads above the EasyEdit area, but that was only viewable in Internet Explorer, not Firefox. I thought it was a little wierd.

Other than that I love the new categories, especially for RPG sites now.

I have also found that the regular form/old forum can be found by http://sitehere.wetpaint.com/thread as usual, Wetpaint has changed it to .forum which I like better. Do you find this valuable?

Personally I hate the discussion forum categories.
but i guess it just takes some getting used to,

one thing i would like to see changed is the pages the threads are on. the way it was with the old set up, you would see the thread starter, title page it's on and who posted last. That page showing on the category pages would make it easier to work with. Since our site has a lot of fan fiction and most people start threads like "here it is" showing the page would let users know exactly WHAT is here...
just a small thing.. hopefully this can be changed.

It depends on the site you have, for example, wpads.wetpaint.com has a bigcommunity and the discussion forum is filled up everday. So, an-de created a few different categories. And what you can do is assign a few moderators to each ctageory, it organizes things so much better. Now Wetpaint Central can run more smoothly because you do not have to go to pages to post threads, you can go to the category, and then post it there, and then people who know that category can answer it quickly.

I personally am trying to figure out the Twitter still, but I will post my opinion when I figure it out!

The only thing that needs changing is the avatar problem, IMO.
Anyway, I don't think the discussion forum should update anymore. It is starting to get very confusing

I'm sorry, but I seriously do not see any good with this change.

All it causes is a lot of jumping back and forth between the different Discussion Pages and a lot of job for mods having to move threads around.

Get the old system back!!!!

I agree 100%. It's not just the FF pages. If someone posts a photo or video people usually say "New photo of ..." or "Spoiler picture". Now people have to open said thread first and then can access the picture/video. Until the changes happened, people could just directly access the pic by clicking on the page.

Hopefully, this can be changed.

Everyone, just cool off a think about it for a minute. Some of you like to get into any conversation, but this will allow users to choose a category and stick with those topics. Give me a scenario and I will tell you how to benefit you! Do you find this valuable?

well that may be, although I have to say, at our wiki, we talk in ALL categories, so this ain't really beneficial to us.

I don't know, I'll give it a day or two and see how it will work out. but so far; not good

Maybe. Well, if you don't really like the Categories feature, then don't use it! You can just use the Updates bar to check out the latest threads and stuff. Do you find this valuable?

What is your general topic wiki? Are you a Luke and Noah fan, because you can categorize that as well. You can categorize videos, pics, episodes, captions, polls, just for fans, etc. This just helps organize the discussion forum more, but don't get me wrong, Wetpaint loves everyone's opinion.
