site deletion by e-mail should be easy for creators
Jul 23 2009, 2:04 PM EDT | Post edited: Jul 23 2009, 2:04 PM EDT
What happens If a creator can not reach to www.wetpaint.com site any longer. Could a deletion request be done only through associated e-mail? Right now there is no problem with my site but I am not sure about future. Nowadays, many video sites are not reachable from some geographic sites to edit any longer. Deleting accounts should be easier under certain circumstances. 6  out of 6 found this valuable. Do you?

I agree as well, and I think that the creator of the wiki should be able to delete the site themselves as well- for example, test sites that are no longer needed. Do you find this valuable?

Yes, I also agree with you, sites should be deleted if nobody wants it anymore or if the site is dead.

I agree too, sort of, but then what if somebody's account got hacked? All their sites or site could be deleted as could their account and then that would be really annoying, especially if they worked really hard. Do you find this valuable?

Wetpaint sites will automatically be deleted after a period of inactivity. You can contact wetpaint to remove your site (realize there may be a wait period here, due to the amount of work they already have to do)

So......if you are the CREATOR of the site and...

If you ARE CERTAIN you do not want your site anymore and want it deleted, here is a method to use.

1. If there are members on your site, contact them and let them know your site is going be shut down.
2. After contacting members about shutdown, Ban them. This way they cannot come back onto the site. They will know the reason why they are banned because you told them your were shutting the site down.
3. Once all members are banned. Make your site a private site, if it is not one already, via settings and permissions.
4. Then as a final step, Go to your profile and cancel your membership and log out.

Now you have a site that no one can enter or see. Because no one can enter it, it will eventually be eliminated by Wetpaint. But in the meantime, if anyone goes to the site, they will see that it is a private site, and no one can allow them into it.

CAUTION: Following the steps above, the site cannot ever be accessed again. So make certain your do not want your site before performing this procedure. There is no changing you mind in a couple of days. YOUR SITE WILL BE GONE!

Another thing to consider:
If there are other members on the site, you may want to ask one of them if they want to take over running the site. You can promote someone to administrator and then cancel your own membership to the site.
