Adverts - too many on the site now

hi

Re: adverts

I fully understand and agree that to make revenue for wetpaint that it is required that you have a number of adverts through the sites. We can't afford the monthly subscription to remove the adverts so more than welcome that you can have adverts on the sites.

However, of late there are now becoming too many adverts hogging up the screen: on the left side, right and top of the screen etc.

The problem is that its becoming too much on the site and can devalue the look and attention on the sites. This will not benefit anyone in the long-term. I think that the number of adverts should be more limited. The advert at the top should be removed and there should only be adverts on the left hand side.

Yahoo for example suffered from over-doing adverts on their sites, and the same can and will happen for many wetpaint sites.

I think this is an important point and should be noted, and the number of adverts reduced.

With over a milion wetpaint wikis created. I can't imagine how many of them have used Wetpaint's free service. The service is easy to use, with no programming experience needed to have a wiki site on the network within an hour or two. I think that is pretty good.

There are 5 regions on a page that ads can appear

( see ad layout herehttp://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/Remove+Advertising )

Wetpaint has worked hard to place these ads so they do not grab valuble user real estate on their pages.

My personal opion on why Yahoo failed (Geocities and podcasts) is Yahoo did not keep abreast of the times. Geocities was one of the first to bring ease to create a website for free. They along with Tripod and Trellix on another free hosting site, decided they could no longer provide the free service and supplied the users with a pay-for-enhancements. This put Yahoo in the class of every other low cost hosting companies. In a time when Twitter, Google, Facebook, and many other social networking avenues are growing, it is wonderful to see Wetpaint thrive and allow its members to tap into those successes.
If Wetpaint needs to go forward into the future as free-ad-supported venue, I am all for it. I enjoy making Wetpaint sites. Plus I really enjoy the free part. Signed as a previous Geocities, Tripod and Trellix website builder who cannot use his websites anymore.

Thanks for your feedback on the ads. Just a heads up - We are currently investigating and designing ways to modify how ads are presented on the page in order to make then appear less intrusive. You will likely see changes in this regard in coming weeks. We consider this a very important issue. Do you find this valuable?
