Video uploading directly to Wetpaint

All schools in the state of WV are blocked from YouTube. We do however, provide a lot of video activities with Public Service Announcements, Digital Stories about educational content, and more! We want our students and teachers to be able to share these videos with one another but we are not able to do it in our wiki because of the limitations and lockdowns of YouTube. I feel VERY strongly that you should allow at least the education sites to upload video directly to Wetpaint even if it is just as an attachment that you can link to. At least it would be a place that we could share and showcase our education video projects safely. It has been brought to my attention that PB Works allows this. However, I have been using Wetpaint for several years and would prefer to continue. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

The limitations or lockdowns are not due to the functionality of Wetpaint, but by a directives of the state of WV and your school abiding by those directives. Having the ability to directly upload videos onto Wetpaint would certainly violate those directives. It is quite simple to download a Youtube video onto one's computer and there is no measure to stop it from being uploaded to your wiki. I would suggest talking to your IT department and work together with them to find a suitable manner to host your videos. A host that would allow either direct linking to the video or having a flash code to be embedded on your wiki page and not violate State mandates. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Have you tried using TeacherTube? It's an education-friendly version of YouTube. You can add TeacherTube videos through the Other Widget tool.

Yes I have thought about TeacherTube. I have used it before. However, I am not concerned about anything but security of our students and ease of use for them in our classrooms. I don't have problems with the states mandates as I know it is for security purposes. Many of the teachers hesitate to use video because they don't have anywhere to securely put it. We are already using Wetpaint wikis that are educational sites and are locked so that no one outside of our school can see them. I prefer not to have to have students go to other sites to upload and then embed when there are options like PB Works that allow you to upload video directly to the site. We are using video a lot at the primary level and would like to make it as easy and safe for them as possible. I really like Wetpaint but am going to look at other options. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I agree uploading a video from your Pc would be easier and safer. Do you find this valuable?
