Restricted on a computer
Jul 3 2009, 12:03 PM EDT | Post edited: Jul 3 2009, 12:03 PM EDT
One of my invitees is trying to join one of my wikis. She is on a couple of other wikis that I run. However, she can't sign up to the newest wiki. When she tries to accept the invite it begins to load and then comes up with this:

"This action has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.”

Any suggestions?

I have never experienced that, or have seen this hapen to anyone. Try telling her to clear her browser cache, and re-send the invite. If the problem consist, try emailing info@wetpaint.com.

Hope it works out for you!

I have to assume you are running Internet Explorer 6 or 7 and your email is Outlook Express or Gmail. Sometimes IE will get confused with its email handler. And when you click on a hyperlink in your email you will receive the message you are experiencing. You can try the following to see if it corrects your problem.

Internet Explorer 6

1. Start Internet Explorer 6.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. Click the Programs tab, and then click the Reset Web Settings button.
4. Under Internet programs, verify that the correct e-mail program is selected.
5. Click to select the Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser check box.
6. Click Apply, and then click OK.

Note You may receive the following message when Internet Explorer starts:
Internet Explorer is not currently your default browser. Would you like to make it your default browser?
If you receive the message, click Yes.

Internet Explorer 7

1. Start Internet Explorer 7.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset.
4. Click the Programs tab, and then click Set programs.
5. Click Set Default Programs.
6. Click to select Microsoft Outlook or Gmail, and then click Set this program as default.
7. Click OK, and then close the Default Programs dialog box.
8. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Programs tab, and then click Make default under Default web browser.
9. Click OK.

If this does not correct your problem please respond back to this thread.

Thank you for this. I will be trying it as soon as I can get in touch with my invitee.

Thank you for the time and advice you gave for this situation. I appreciate your effort.

What I was not informed of was that my invitee was not using FireFox. It should have been my first question having already had many headaches with Microsoft Explorer. I had her try with FireFox and she had no problem.

Please do not think your time was wasted. I have printed off your instructions and will use them for any future problems.
