Contractions in messages

Whenever I use a contraction in a message (e.g. couldn't, moderator's, etc.), the receiver sees it with "’" in place of the apostrophe. I have seen this not only on my site, bur on other sites to which I am a member. Is this a known problem for which there is a fix pending? Do you find this valuable?

The &rsquo family is compatible with these common browsers IE 8,7,6 - FF3,2 - Saf 3 - OP 9 - Chrome. Wetpaint recommends only IE and FF and doesn't support Safari, Opera and Chrome due to some html interpretation issues. If you are using a browser other than IE or FF, you may consider using one of the two recommended browsers. I would suggest using FF, because IE still has its own way of doing things away from the standard. Do you find this valuable?

I'm having this problem with both FF3 and IE6. Is there something else you can recommend? Do you find this valuable?
