Can I remove the 'Apply tobe a writer' link on each page
Jun 26 2009, 8:39 AM EDT
I would rather all invitations came from the moderator (me) only. This is a school site and I would like it to be viewed by all - it helps to encourage more students to join. However, I would rather the 'apply to be a writer' link was not viewable. Even though people who join my site this way cannot edit, they can add threads. I would rather be reassured that only students I invite can register.

Well, there is really no way to do this. You can chose a different site option allowing anyone who joins your site the ability to edit. However, if you only want a certain few people on your site, I suggest making your private and getting the their emails to invite them on the site. Then, you have an option to make them registered user, writer, moderator, etc.

If you wish for your site to be made only for your students then I suggest making your site private. By making your site private only members (students) you invite will be able to access the site. This will keep out unwanted site destroyers and such. However if you still want the site to be viewable them I am sad to say you will have to deal with the writer button. Don't worry though all Writer Requests will be sent to a little tab in the Updates section and not straight to your email, and only you can promote people if you are the moderator. If you wish to charge your wiki to private just go to Settings in the upper right hand corner, choose the Permissions tab, and from there it becomes pretty self explanatory. Please note you do need to be an administrator or creator in order to be able to change those settings.

Thanks for the advice. I will have to make the decision as to whether to go private.....
