E-mail notifications, Students under 13
Jun 6 2009, 11:38 AM EDT
I haven't received any e-mail notifications (other than the one confirming my joining your education wiki yesterday) since I changed my e-mail address on May 29th. I used to get a weekly digest, as well as notifications when people joined my site, etc., with my old address.Would you mind checking my profile for my sites - sosict.wetpaint (public) and vsos.wetpaint (private) - to make sure e-mail notifications are properly set up? The e-mail on my profile is the one I want to use (not the one ending in usd259.net). Also, can I confirm that if a parent signs a child under 13 up for Wetpaint, and joins my Summer of SUCCESS Club site, the student can then contribute? Or does the parent need to make the contribution to the site on the student's behalf? I want to make sure I'm doing this right. Thanks. :) 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

It depends on what your email provider is. If you are a teacher and you are using your education email address there may be some problems receiving emails from Wetpaint.Any person under the age of 13 cannot even join the wiki. Parents can contribute on behalf of the student, but the account owner will have to be a person(s) 13 or older. Do you find this valuable? |

My e-mail provider is gmail. I was actually getting my notifications and digests, etc., at my school address but I don't have access to that one over the summer so I changed it to a gmail address.Another student question - students can participate in discussions as long as they do it anonymously? And one more question - may I quote material from a published source as long as I cite the source? Or should I only post links to the articles on their own sites? Do you find this valuable? |

People could lie about who they are and say something nasty. I say have the parents create accounts for the students, that way the age rule is fulfilled. As for published material, I think you should site and provide a URL for the original site, but that should be fine. Hope this helps! ~Spanier-Tech Support Com. Mod. Do you find this valuable? |

For most copyright material they request that you contact the person(s) who created the content.

"Anonymous is...risky. People could lie about who they are and say something nasty. I say have the parents create accounts for the students, that way the age rule is fulfilled.I am troubled by this thread and here is why: Telling a user to get the parents to create an account for a child under the age of 13 circumvents federal law. In order to register for an account on Wetpaint, users must be 13 or older. Wetpaint prevents children under 13 from registering in order to comply with federal regulations (COPPA). And having a 14 year old give legal advice as it pertains to copyright law/copyright infringement is out of this world. If there is concern with copyright infringement, I would suggest reading the intellectual property laws or copyright laws. If there still is concern or doubt, consult a professional who deals in such matters. Certainly, contacting the copyright holder is a proper route to seek permission to reproduce all or part of the material. Do you find this valuable? |
