Combining public and private

I want to make my site open for the public to view it. However, I'd also like any discussions that happen between the members (who are invited only) to be private. For example, let's say the members want to discuss fees that they charge and going rates. I don't want the public and potential clients to see these posts or threads. Is that possible? Or is it all one or the other? Do you find this valuable?

Yes this is possible, you will have to tell your users to use the P2P (person-to-person) messaging system.
Please see: http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/Messaging
This is currently the only way to make conversations private.
