Docstoc & slideshare widgets not fully functional in Wetpaint
May 5 2009, 6:25 AM EDT
Hi guysI have been uploading some ppt presentations to Slideshare widget and pdf files to docstoc (and scribd) but have found that when I embed their widgets into my wiki some of the functions in the widgets are not functional. For example the full screen button does not work for the slideshow widget and full screen & [open in] docstoc buttons do not work for docstoc. Also the print button that you get for a docstoc widget inserted into another (not Wetpaint) site does not appear for Wetpaint. I have also recently found the same issue with other presentation widgets such as Authorstream. Apart from these issues the widgets are correctly embedded into my wikis. I'm guessing it has something to do with WetPaint and not the settings in the widgets as I have played around with as many settings as I can at the Slideshare and Docstoc websites, and the same presentations work fully when I embed them in other wikis such as wikispaces. For me, and I'm sure for other educators and many others the ability for the user to be able to open the embedded presentation in fullscreen is very important as quite often the presentations include diagrams that cannot be fully read unless in full screen. I'm hoping you can suggest a workaround/fix to this issue. In case you need to see an example the relevant page of my wiki is http://sickscience7.wetpaint.com/page/The+science+laboratory. many thanks in advance Do you find this valuable? |

As of last night, we now have custom support for Docstoc widgets that will allow them to work properly on our sites. Unfortunately, as of today, Docstoc is redoing their site -- so it's not currently usable.I'll look into the Slideshare problem. Phil Do you find this valuable? |

I tested a Slideshare widget, and it opened fullscreen with no problems when I clicked on the fullscreen icon. So that's at least possible on a Wetpaint wiki. I noticed that the Slideshare widget on the page you pointed me at did not do this, though. I'm investigating; if I can come up with embed code for your widget that allows fullscreen, I'll post it here. The Docstoc problems are difficult to investigate now because their site is still in maintenance mode. One bit of advice I can give you is that they now provide a special "Wetpaint" embed code; this should solve at least the fullscreen and print button problems (both of these features work on my test Docstoc widgets). I don't know about the "Open In" button though. I've asked someone here to help me look into this. Phil 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

The embed function as of September 14, 2009 does not appear to offer a special "Wetpaint" code.
