So, does wetpaint only work in firefox
Apr 12 2009, 12:48 PM EDT | Post edited: Apr 12 2009, 12:48 PM EDT
Ok, today has been a day of revelations for me. First, I tried to get my friend to view a page on my wetpaint wiki (a private wiki for our little game design club) and all the tables overrun the pages. Ok, I thought, he uses internet explorer 7, surely that's the problem, it's not the most standards compliant browser. So I got him to upgrade to internet explorer 8 (I wasn't sure if he was ready to cross over to firefox yet) and none of the table controls worked, still I blamed it on Internet Explorer. Then I checked out wetpaint on my laptop which uses google chrome, turns out that's not fully supported either, neither is safari.
It seems to me that the only browser fully supported by wetpaint is firefox, which is ok for me, it's a great browser, I use it, but don't you think this cuts out a large number of people. If you really need features only offered by firefox, why do you have to make this a secret, could you not at least put a sign on the front page, or somewhere, which tells people that they need to use firefox to use all the features of the site. It would be interesting to know why it was decided that wetpaint would only work in one browser.

P.S. If any of you guys have got all the features of wetpaint to work in a browser other than firefox, please tell me, I want to know. Also, don't just show me browsers based on firefox source code as it's pretty obvious they would work.

P.P.S. I use firefox, don't go all 'firefox is god' on me, I've already been converted to your religion

P.P.P.S I am aware I have posted this in three different places, I got it wrong the first two times and cannot delete the thread myself

Internet Explorer works fine for me.
Use that one. There are others, but I have never used them. I use IE and Firefox.

Internet Explorer 8, Google Chrome, and Safari are NOT fully supported by Wetpaint. Internet Explorer 7 should be fine, but Firefox works the best. For more information check out:

Also, if you are having problems with tables please give us more information.

Hope this helps!

Ok, thanks for the quick reply, the table problems are only occuring in Internet Explorer 7 and they seem to only be occuring for my friend at the moment, I've got some screenshots of the problem occuring on different pages. The problem seems to only occur when tables are set to fit the screen and even then, it seems to work with some edits and not others. He has tried refreshing etc. still getting the same problems. I'll post screenshots as soon as I find them. Do you find this valuable?

Wetpaint fully supports Internet Explorer 6-7; Mozilla Firefoz 2-3.1. In Safari 1-4, all features but editing are supported. The same goes for Chrome and Opera. Internet Explorer 1-5, and Firefox 0.8-2 do not support logging in. Do you find this valuable?

I have also had problems with linking and adding tables with Internet Explorer. My advice, dump Internet Explorer and install Firefox. That is my advice. That is what I did and I am loving Firefox a ton more than internet Explorer.

On the main page, note, the bits I have blacked out are peoples names etc. Again tables set to fit to page.

So solved, get Firefox and throw Internet Explorer out the window.
Firefox download link: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/firefox.html
Download it and you will not have many problems.

I see the problem. Just stop using Internet explorer and get Firefox. That is my advice.

Sorry, didn't realised I'd already posted, yeah I use firefox, it's just a large number of people still use IE, just wanted to know if the site was known to not work in IE or whether it was a problem with my friends computer. Also, thanks for all the quick repies, fastest support I've ever got on a problem, on any website. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Yes, IE7 is prone to bugs, particularly with the tables.

I hate to contradict Orcaman1000, but wetpaint does support IE 6-7, and it does not support any other browser besides Firefox 2-3.1 Do you find this valuable?

IE 6-7 are terrible though. Firefox is the say to go.
