Edit Post (2/17/09 release)
Mar 2 2009, 7:20 PM EST | Post edited: Mar 2 2009, 7:20 PM EST
I posted the below in the 'Tell us what you think" but with zero response.

OOPS! Edit post bug! Or just not thought through?

The edit works just great BUT if someone QUOTES your post the quote remains as is for all to see. So if you edit out something embarrassing it is now MORE so as people can compare the versions to see what the difference is.

So don't edit your post if someone has quoted it as you are wasting your time & just drawing more attention to it.

That's completely intentional. It's not a bug, and it is thought through as part of the design. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the reply but an explanation would help. You seem to be saying that Wetpaint want to make the edit function only half work. I am at a loss to understand the logic. If you cannot rectify your error in quotes as well as the post, what exactly is the benefit to having the edit function? Unless of course you edit it BEFORE anyone quotes it.

The quote is a part of the reply, not a part of the original post. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

They are quoting what you DID write, not your revised version. If you changed your post on both the original, and the one they quoted, then their comment could be messed up and not make sense.

Seems I am the only one who gets this, so I will leave it as is. I will just not bother with this pointless tool unless I spot the error immediately after sending.

Thanks for replying.
