Acceptable length for a discussion forum

My students have commented that there is a limit to the length of one's post in the discussion forum, which results in them cutting their original post into two. They would like to retain the single post in its entirety. Aside from asking them to edit their work, is there a way to extend the word/letter limit on discussion forum posts? Do you find this valuable?

There is currently no way to extend the limit, but I will pass on your suggestion to the development team. I understand that this feature could be especially useful when students are trying to post reports, assignments, notes, etc. via the discussion forum.

Extending the maximum length is a possibility. With the understanding that it can't be unlimited, what length would you prefer? Do you find this valuable?

You may want to think that you can message anyone privately with no limit that I know of. But there should be more space for certain needs.
