Mandatory entrance of birthdate to become a member

Why must members be required to inlude their birthdate to become a member of a site? 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

IMO, because wetpaint isn't really such a safe online community for people under 13. There are too many people here, and if a person under 13 meets a per he/she doesnson that he/she doesn't know, then that would be really dangerous, wouldn't it? Do you find this valuable?

Wetpaint asks the user's date of birth during registration in order to verify that they are eligible to create an account. Federal regulations prevent us from collecting information from users under the age of 13, and asking for a date of birth is the best way for a free service to go about screening out users that are too young.

Yes, there are better ways to verify age, but they generally require the user provide a credit card or some even more personal information. Do you find this valuable?

I apologize for joining early instead waiting patiently to be 13. When I knew about wetpaint, I was on my creative side and thought of organizing things and making my wetpaint site unique. Today I realized that you need to be 13+ to use the site. To be honest, I'm 12 and will be 13 on September 20th, 2009. I also put the wrong birth date by mistake when I signed up. My user name is OtakuTB15.

P.S. Tell me if you banned my username or not through my gmail

I would never want to give anyone my credit card number. though I am 15. therefore i do not have a credit card. I just got cash. :) Do you find this valuable?
