Usefulness of search engines for new websites

The way I see it, the search engine game is not a level-playing field. It's just like in society where the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer. According to one report, 80% of the clicks goes to the websites that are posted on the first page. Websites that get a hold on the first page of search engines therefore get a distinct advantage and the clicks that they receive further entrench their position. Actually for new sites, I think it is better to forget about search engines and just rely on blogs and forums. In other words, search engines are for the well-established websites. Some may disagree with me, but with more than 100 million websites today, how many will succeed in getting themselves listed on the front page? Positive thinking must be tempered with realism. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?
