Aaaargh - what happened to your adverts (again)

I appreciate you need to place adverts to make money. Up until recently your ads were Google text ads, which was fine - not too obtrusive and had a product that was to do with the subject of the site. But NOW - flashing, eye distracting ads about any old subject you care to mention. Is this just a trial, here to stay or a glitch??? 4  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

We are currently testing out display banner advertising across the Wetpaint network of sites because we’re committed to keeping Wetpaint a free service. The way we defer the costs of Wetpaint is by placing advertising on your Wetpaint sites. Until recently, we primarily used Google advertising. Earlier this year, Google made a significant change to their advertising product. You can read more about the change and its impact on its users on TechCrunch here: http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/02/29/google-ctr-down-due-to-click-area-changes/

During this test, we’ll be trying an assortment of different ad networks to see which provides the best balance between user experience and revenue. To be clear, we find the aggressively flashing, bouncing, and music playing ads to be unacceptable. We’ve made efforts to keep them out of the mix. If you see such advertising, please take a screen shot and send it in. We’ll do what we can to make sure those don’t appear. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.

I have noticed a decrease in those type of ads. They were annoying, and caused my internet to run slower than normal. Thanks Jeremy for removing them.

I've got to 'chip in' on this one.... Please don't put adverts at the top of the page as they distract from the Site.... Yes I know you make money from adverts but people also pay you a monthly fee to remove these ... It's important that Adverts do not effect a users enjoyment of the site and adverts should also be relevant to the site othewise it makes the Site look cheap and will force people to look at other alternative providers.... and please can you let people know when you are going to trial this kind of thing so we don't get comments from clients before we even know it's happening.. Thanks

I doubt that these header ads are going to be very popular with anyone.
