still no real backup - horrifying neglect of important LEGAL issue
Dec 15 2008, 7:22 AM EST
Computing 101 says you must backup your data, and that Backup must be readily restorable. To call something a backup, when it cannot be restored from that, is misleading at best, down right deceptive at worst.Personally I'm no legal expert, but as long as WetPaint continues to claim it has a backup facility, it is very open to a legal claim if it is not possible to restore from that backup. If one person sues for inability to restore from a backup, then WetPaint probably goes down the tube, and ... WE ALL LOSE ALL O UR DATA. And this can happen without WetPaint losing any data at all. A user accidentally or maliciously deletes a whole load of pages, and wants to restore the site from his last backup. Time for WetPaint to do the right thing, provide a proper backup and restore facility. To anything less and you could be easily be sued by your users and your investors. In every other way WetPaint seems to be great. But so many people who would be willing to pay good dollars to build on this great platform, just cannot becuase of the sensible requirements by their organisations that they must be able to take backups. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. That might be a solution to at least a full dump of the site content. But rippers might have some problems with the way wetpaint works. Can anyone recommend a website ripper that works with Wetpaint sites ? Do you find this valuable? |
