Administrator cannot adjust email or change password
Dec 10 2008, 11:32 AM EST
I have read the threads on why an administrator cannot adjust, reset a password. I have a user on our wiki that has moved and lost access to his old email address AND forgot his password. How can we fix this issue? Thanks! + Leeland Do you find this valuable? |

They will need to create a new account using an email address that they do have access to. If they forgot their password and do not have access to the email address on the account, then there is no way to get into the account.

This really isn't acceptable. This will pollute our membership with duplicate accounts and incorrect data. You have no idea what I had to go through to talk the lodge into using and paying for this service. If we start making members create new accounts because they haven't logged in for a bit this will cause a backlash that would seem simple enough to correct.+ Leeland Do you find this valuable? |

I'm sorry that your user forgot their password and no longer has access to the email address that they created the account with. Those are the only verifiable pieces of information that we have about a user.We have no way of accessing the password since we store passwords encrypted. Manually updating account information would be a violation of our security practices. Do you find this valuable? |

If you're worried about one user having two accounts, you can always ban the account that they're no longer using... this might eliminate some of the confusion.
