Delete members

It would be very useful as the Wiki administrator to be able to delete members. For example, one member cannot login and cannot retrieve his password (cannot find his email address), but he is listed as a member. It doesn;t seem right to "ban" him but it woul dbe great to delete him and send a new invitation.Similarly, I am using my Wiki for a course--I would like to delete all the members at the end of the semester and leave the Wiki intact for the next semester. Otherwise I have to copy all of the content, choose another, less clear name, and then delete this Wiki. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Even if the user was "deleted" from the site, their username/password account information still exists in the Wetpaint database. So this would not solve the problem. Removing a user from a single site is something very different from deleting an account from the entire Wetpaint network. Many users are members of multiple sites and may not want to be deleted from them all in one fell swoop.

It's not me, so I guess someone else uses it on another site. Why not make them specific to the site? That would make the administrators' job much easier, too. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you mean that a member cannot delete himself from the Wetpaint network? I have a member that created a 2nd membership by mistake and wants to delete it, and another that wants to change his user-name but is told to create a new account. He wants to do that, but also wants to delete the old one. And what happens if a member is "banned" -- do they get a notice? Does their membership no longer appear on the list? Does the banning appear on their Wetpaint profile? Do you find this valuable? |

I don't think this is the problem. I think what many people are asking for as administrators of their own wiki, is to delete members to their own wiki. NOT the entire wetpaint network. I am suprised that this is hard to do. Myspace, Facebook, Youtube all work like this. One can be taken out of the group by the admin and still a member of the service.

It's the same thing on Wetpaint. Just because you ban someone from your site does not mean that they are banned from all sites.

Yes, but at least you can not SEE them in your members area of once having been a member of that particular wiki. What function does that serve?

When a member is banned they are removed from the members list and put into a separate list. Only those with permission levels of Moderator and above can see that banned member list. The banned members are held in that list, so if it is determined the member may be able to participate in the wiki again, they may be un-banned by a moderator or above.

Just want to make sure that my students (writers) can not see them. Jeremy_wetpaint said no, so he must know.
