linking to headers or sub-headers
Nov 9 2008, 1:28 PM EST
I have started my wiki a few weeks ago and I am starting to get a lot of content. Because of the nature of my wiki there are a large ammount of very small chunks of text which I would really like to link to. However I don't want to have these all as their own seperate pages, I would much rather have them on their respective pages and just link to the part needed. I thought I could do this by making them headers of subheaders, howevere I haven't been able to figure out how to link to them. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

This is something I'm interested in as well. I'm doing a site with a bunch of technical jargon. I would like to have all the strange words explained with links to their meanings. By searching the net for HTML info, I found out to tweak the link tab to do what I want on the top of this page : http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/struct/links.html . You can link within a page by "naming" sections and then targeting them. However, I do not know how to edit using HTML in Wetpaint. My "ghetto" fix is pretty lame. I'm going to make a heading called Archives. As a new page I will have the definition for each word or term so I can link right to it. Do you find this valuable? |

What you could do is add table at the top of the page, laying out what will be covered on the page.Cedric 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

The thing is that I have hundreds of things that are 'covered.' It isn't that I want a Table of Contents, I want a direct link to the item in question and I dont really want to make seperate pages for each item, though I will if I have to. Wasn't this the point of Wikis in the firt place?

What you're asking for is commonly called an anchor tag. It's not something we support at the moment, but it is something we may do in the future. Most sites elect to go the route of multiple pages. Doing so also allows easier categorization. The ability to name multiple pages within the same site also tends to improve search engine results. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Thank you very much! I will have to get started on making all of those new pages! At least I know I should stop trying to figure it out now.

It is unfortunate that WetPaint does not have this feature. I have been working on moving my wiki's here, but without this feature I may have to give up on you guys. I am finding your code extremely lacking.
