How to get rid of "Do you find this valuable?"
Nov 7 2008, 10:30 AM EST | Post edited: Nov 7 2008, 10:30 AM EST
I find it valuable NOT to have the "Do you find this valuable?" question show up under every post. It clutters the page and it's not useful for my wiki. How do I get rid of it? 3  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

Sorry, there is no possible way to remove it.
But really, it doesn't really take up that much space. :/

we happen to use this feature. It is a polite way to say "your off topic" .
I don't really use the new "off topic thread"/ "general discussion" feature, so I just ignore it. :)

No you can not see who voted for your post.

I've never really seen a problem with the voting system. If you don't like it, ignore it. I for one like to see the number of members who found my post valuable, even if some members just say no for the heck of it.

But most people hate it you are the first one I meet who dont see a problem with it
you dont want you post to be downvoted and a stalker troll does not care of the content of our post and this seems to start many flame wars just because you dont know who is doing it and why also they can do it several time if clearing cookies

Hi there Fermi.

Shadow and I am from the same site. He doesn't care about this feature. I don't really care about it either. There shouldn't be anyone stalking you with it, and I don't see why anyone should be scared of being stalked by this feature, when there really is no way to be stalked by using this feature.

ignoring it and the problem will prolly go away but its still annoying to see a post who shouldn't offend someone being downvoted 15 times and I'm not the only one with this problem we have many nicknames for it in our wiki.
it seems like it is the downvoting trolls who is the only one benefiting from this feature.

The reason I don't mind this feature is rather simple. I am confident that someone somewhere will find my comment of use. Of course getting a no is never fun, but I look beyond the nos. If I get 1 yes, that satisfies me. I could have 1 out of 28 found this valuable, but knowing that one person found my comment of use is good enough for me. If someone votes my comment no, they have their reasons. If I am against their argument it is only right that they vote no, my comment does not hold value to the point they are trying to make. If someone votes no because they hate me, I can live with it. Though they vote out of hate that either means they really did not read the comment, or they have read it. It is possible that they do not want to admit it, but they found the comment valuable.
I guess it is all in the perspective that you look at things.

Anyways by clearing your browser cookies you can vote again, due to the fact when you vote you will receive a cookie from Wetpaint. Once your cookies are cleared, there is no record that you voted. So you have the ability to vote again.

Trolls get their kicks from your misery. In other words the more that you show you hate when your comment is downed, the more they will continue to do it. Trolls are piratically internet bullies who feel they are safe behind a computer screen. Like in real life if you are bullied, a bully will continue to harass you to get a reaction. If you were to ignore the bully and he feels that he is not making your life worse, then he moves on. The goal of a bully in the end is to make you feel as bad as possible.

OK... I am happy for you that you don't mind getting a "not valuable" on your post, but I can tell you that many people do get upset when their posts are targeted by someone. Who needs to have this kind of ego stroke anyway? Most people I know on other sites, could care less about how many valuables they have. What they do care about, is their members being targeted by someone who is only trying to hurt someone. Believe me, your one "valuable" is NOT worth the million "not valuables" that have caused upset to many members. I have seen good people leave a site because of the misuse of this feature, and the ego stroke that a few get from this is NOT worth it. Whether or not you see the problem...it is a problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you find this valuable?

Okay, offwithherhead, I did not, nor did Shadow, say it wasn't a problem. Most people I know don't pay attention to how many valuables are yes or no.

If you have had this problem before, you could have reported it. Although, there is no way to see who did it, so if you have a problem, in the future report it. Talk to Jeremy or a Mod and ask them to think about it.

Does this happen on your site?

One site that I am referring to that has had this problem is The Tudors Wiki. There have been endless discussions in the threads about this issue. We were told by our Mods that the issue was addressed and there is nothing that can be done about it....so members were lost... .members who contributed greatly to the site, but because someone took a dislike to them, they were targeted. Who wants to subject themselves to that kind of thing. It is great to share the interest of a show with others on a wiki site, but who wants to be maligned for it. Because the feature is anonymous there are no repercussions for someone being vindictive, and so too, no protection for good members. Outside of ego stroking...what earthly purpose does it serve? Do you find this valuable?

Is your site set to like Wetpaint's, where there are no Writers?
