Placing a "Voki" Onto a Wiki?
Oct 16 2008, 6:04 PM EDT
Greetings,I've been trying to embed a Voki avatar into my wiki but I haven't had any luck at all. I've been using the "other widget" option because Voki isn't listed, but every time I try to put it in it says the code is wrong. I found the link to the Voki website from Wetpaint itself on the "where to find more widgets" page, so I'd assume it is possible to place a Voki avatar into a Wetpaint wiki... But how, exactly? I sure can't figure it out... 7 out of 9 found this valuable. Do you? |

A "Voki" is a little animated Flash character that allows you to enter in some text, choose a voice and than the voice says what you typed. So it's not a standard image or anything like that.

No, it isn't a normal image. You can use animated images as profile images though.

I don't understand... Perhaps I'm not explaining myself very well. Here's a test Voki I made... http://www.voki.com/php/viewmessage/?chsm=bddfc7ca32cd4bc366fa8cac898ef5d0&mId=119750 As you can see it's a Flash graphic, not just an image you upload into the Wiki. At least as far as I know you can't upload it... Voki gives me a few options for embedding, but the codes are things like <script language="JavaScript"...>, <PARAM NAME="movie"...> and <OBJECT id="voki"...>. When I try either of them by putting them into an "Other Widget" it just gives me an error message... 0 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

"i know you cant put java script icons onto wiki`s because wetpaint does not support them"And the other two don't work, either. Though I was wondering if there was some way to modify the codes (or something along that line) to get them to work? I find it odd that Wetpaint would suggest this website as a widget if you can't even do it... I mean heck, the link is right there under "Where to Find Widgets" (http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/Where+To+Find+Widgets?t=anon). They even claim that Wetpaint "loves" these websites... 1 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

Well, I guess my only hope of adding a Voki to my wiki is that Wetpaint some day allows the use of Java Script. Which sure would make life easier, seeing as plenty of widgets use this...

Ah, thank you.Oddly enough when you first create a Voki the first MySpace code doesn't work... Wetpaint wont accept it. But it seems if you go back and view your Voki later and get the MySpace code than it works for some reason. Not sure what about the code changes, but something does. o.O But that's what I was doing wrong, I guess. 0 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Yep, have been having the same problem. Have managed to get round it by saying that I'm going to publish it to MySpace, which does work straightaway.

You can add Voki into a wetpaint site. Simply choose the Myspace embed option on Voki, then use the "other widgets" embed on wetpaint & away you go!

I tried this and it still does not work. A message shows "This appears to be an invalid widget." Any other suggestions?
