Yet more edit bugs etc...so annoying
Oct 4 2008, 8:30 AM EDT
In the past I have written and read issues regarding editing and formating bugs and here we are yet again with more of the same. Its now getting rather irritating.

www.retrohead.co.uk on Firefox browser V 3.0.3 and also IE 6.0.29 Windows XP sp2

Relevant page - Homepage 13.20 hours on 4/10/08

So, I go to edit and try to move a picture, which I cant, but thats another story. So for safety I press cancel and it returns me to the homepage only to find that two or three of my boxes are missing edges (top/middle/side). So I go back to edit to find that they ARE in fact there. So I cancel edit again and look, they have disapeared again. In I go yet again to edit only to find other formatting items have changed. Like pictures moved closer to words, spacing out of sync etc..I cancel edit in case it rectifies itself and see that outside of edit its all fine. Inbetween each edit and cancel edit the edges on the boxes would be there one minute then the next gone again. So i now cant edit in case I bugger it up even more.

This is not the first time this kind of thing has happened and ite getting really annoying now, to the point that Wetpaint is looking unreliable. I love Wetpaint, but the edit features are so so important and they appear to be unreliable.

Also why the heck has the rest of the text format changed. For example the threads and side and top bar menus have had their format changed to another type (Ariel, Georgia etc..). Was this planned or is this another glitch?????

Ummmm...any word on this issue....

Let me go over the issue again....front page there are a couple of boxes further down the page that are missing an edge to the boxes...why?

In another box (the green and white ones) half the pictures have moved a space to the left, why?

In the navigation menu and header menues (discussion forum, members etc..) the fonts have changed. Why?

Is wetpaint looking into this feature. I know for a fact that this has happened before and that other members have had this issue.

Whats going on?

We are currently working on fixing a number of problems with editing. The things we're looking at include behavioral differences between IE and Firefox, and different appearance depending on whether you're editing. We hope to have our WYSIWYG working much better in the next release. I will look at your page and make sure we're considering all the specific problems you mentioned.

As for the font of page headers and the nav panel, that seems very odd. The fonts may be different between IE and Firefox, although they should always be of the same "type", e.g. sans-serif vs. serif. Is this problem still happening when you edit pages? If you know of a way to make the fonts change noticeably in the same browser, please let us know.

And as for the "Oops" page searching for EDIT... that's a real problem; thank you for reporting it.

Thanks for replying...here is what I can tell you...

When I go to edit the edit panel is now much smaller, the fonts for that are tiny, so small the various edit icons are even slightly blurred. In fact I have noticed that some of the font sizes on the sites home page have changed also...to me using Firefox the page footer information is now so small you cant read it. Are you seeing that too?

The Nav bar font has still changed...or maybe it is just the size and not the font itself. When I go to other Wiki sites it is the normal font and size.

I have always used Firefox so I know how it should look. I do periodically check how it looks on IE and a quick look shows me that its virtually normal and how it should be, bar one heading size, but thats manageable, although some things were wrong on IE the other day...so something is certainly amiss.

I cant touch my site now until I either know what the issue is or I am given the go ahead by you guys to self manage the problem, although I cant self manage the nav font problem.

Hope this helps

Have you checked the font size and zoom setting for your browser? They're under the View menu. Do you find this valuable?

I dont flippin believe it....Jason....you hit the nail on the head...I dont for the life of me know how that happened but zooming back in solved all the issues...I swear I never even went into that Zoom menu...maybe there is a shortcut I pressed without even realising it, or maybe its a firefox bug.

I am so sorry for wasting all your time. Mind you at least other people who experience the same problem will be able to find the solution I guess.

There is one problem though that you might be able to fix for me...on my frontpage there is a box with a picture of the PSP 3000 with the heading 'recently added to Retrophead'....the heading is to the left of the box but I want it centre of the box, but i cant sort out the problem in edit it keeps going back to the left. Yet in IE it is always centre....any ideas how to fix this issue, its happened before....thank you for all your help so far.

Centering text in a table cell is one of thost things we're working on making easier in our next release. There's a couple of things to try. First, try putting a blank line before any text in the cell you're trying to center. Second, try re-creating the table. Sometime the HTML gets messed up to the point where it's best to start over with a particular table. Do you find this valuable?
