Member order by last activity.
Oct 1 2008, 3:42 AM EDT | Post edited: Oct 1 2008, 3:42 AM EDT
Hi,

My site http://retirephilippines.wetpaint.com is just over 2 weeks old & I am trying to keep my eye open for members who join but then do not return, so I can find out why. I thought that using the 'Members" tab & selecting the Ordered by 'Last Activity' it would show the date they joined and the last time they logged onto my site. After using WC search, I have only found 1 post that said this only counts edits & threads. I have just had a message sent by one member & it shows no new activity.

If true, then how do I track my membership if most just visit without adding content? Can this be added in to the next upgrade? It is key to know if members are leaving without canceling their membership.

I've moved this thread to the Make a Suggestion page. Good feedback. I can see how you might want to know which members have been signed in and sending messages recently. I'll run this by the development team and see if we can do anything about it in the near future. Do you find this valuable?

Thanks Jeremy,

I knew I could count on you. It should be .....Ordered by 'Last Login' Look forward to seeing this soon.

Jeremy,

I hope some action is being taken here as this is a bigger issue than I thought. A member today changed his profile image & although I know, as well as doing this, he visits the site daily but he is shown as no activity for 2 weeks.

To possible new members viewing my site, this makes it look like a lot of members never visit, when in reality they are there most days. Wetpaint is in effect making enrolling new members harder, as people follow the crowd.

I have seen other posts asking for 'who's online' also, so this is needed.

Hope you can push this forward as it is about the onlt real weakness I see in Wetpaint. Hope to be on the Wepaint 500 when I qualify for the 30 days rule tis week now.

Uzi.

I agree that it would be nice if the active members list was ordered by last login, and not last post or page edit. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

this would also be good and very handy for if you go on your site you have to take a look around it before you can say if anybody is online where as you can just have a widget on somthing on the homepage that does that!

Great Idea!!!!

yes. That is a great suggestion.
We only know when a member last logged in and that's not a very useful information. If the site remembers him, he doesn't need to sign in back for a couple of month because he isn't signed out.
Yes, knowing who is online and when is a really useful feature.

This thread / suggestion is 9 months old now but nothing has happened. Is it SO complicated to include this into an update? Given the comments, it is a much needed enhancement that would be well received.

This is a great idea. I think it should be a widget, like the new member spotlight and the recent activity. It could contain a list of people who are currently online. Do you find this valuable?

An online feature would be a nice feature, but then there is no privacy. Sometimes, members log on to see what is going on and moderate the site, not post threads and edit pages. Sometimes, members that log on dont want others to know they are on. I like it how it is right now, where if you want to moderate the site secretly, you can do this. If there is a Online now feature, it defeats the whole purpose of privacy. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

But then again, no privacy. If there was an online/offline feature, no user could ever stay anonymous. Installing a feature like this defeats the purpose of privacy. Sometimes, people do not want others to know they are on, they just want to view the website anonymously. Personally, I would not like an online/offline feature installed into wetpaint. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

you could do something like on facebook, where you can choose to show up on the online list or not. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I am a moderator on one of the sites. I know that many members visit the site for information, which i think is great. It would be nice to know as a moderator who is actually online, how many online are anonymous (just viewing). If a member is not log in, they would be considered anonymous. You cannot tell if member actually uses the site or not if they do not post. There are some members who just send messages, but it doesn't change the activity. i think having last login & last activity will help members, moderators and owners of who is actually on the site. As it was stated in an earlier post. many people will join a site, but never come back. As a mod or owner we should have the ability to see that so we know that actual membership of current users.
