Promoting websites

I have loads of keyword tags on my website. When I search up the name of my website on Google search I can't find it anywhere. I need more help.

Thank you.

Ok, here is the deal. Since you are using wetpaint, it is like a hosting-site, it won't be the first site in the list in google. Especially, if the key tags you use are very common words, then they will probably end up at the very end of the list or possibly not at all. Do you find this valuable?

My suggestion for getting to the top of a search engine would be, own a phrase. If your website is about "2D Adventure RPGs" then use that in your page name, URL, text and tags. In that specific phrase, 2D Adventure RPG (mine), if you read down the list of pages you will find that three out of the top ten are mine. It isn't on Wetpaint but a blog equivalent.

Try searching what you want to have your website about. "Guitar" for example. In google there are 47,800,000 results for Guitar. It is impossible to compete.

Try narrowing it down even more. Say "Vintage Guitar". 868,000 is still a lot to compete with.

Again, try "Vintage Electric Guitar". This is a phrase you might want to try and target. Around 30,000 pages and under is a good amount.

To check that a person actually searches for this, use this tool:
https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

If there are over 100 searches per day then you have hit gold! Make sure that the top results contain website such as Wikipedia and eBay as you will never overtake their position.

Lots of keyword tags can actually hurt your search results as search engines consider it to be keyword stacking.

Use a specific set of keyword throughout your site,a nd make it a small, effective, and descriptive list. Make sure your page titles contain those keywords. Make sure they're on your homepage.

Also, be sure to use the wiki promotion tools that are available in the Promote area of your site. We designed those tools based on our knowledge of what works for the wikis that are top-ranked by search engines.

It is entirely possible to have great ranking in search results. Do a search for James Bond Wiki on google, and the first entry is a Wetpaint site, above the Wikipedia entry. Do a search for Zombie Survival and the first result is another Wetpaint wiki, above the links to the official sites for the books of the same name.

Patience is also important. Search engines don't refactor their results immediately, especially if you're in a crowded space.

To get the search engines to consider adding you, request your website to be crawled by Google here: http://www.google.com/addurl/ Do you find this valuable?
