Questions about Education/classroom wiki options & settings
Sep 8 2008, 2:29 PM EDT
I am developing a wiki for my history class and have a few questions about options and settings. . . and some wishful suggestions
1. can you increase the thread character/word limit to greater than 2000 characters.this would make it much more functional for different types of assignments.
2. Is there a way to have student post assignments blindly - that is - w/o the ability to see other students' answers/posts/ threads?
3. can you color code (font color) edits or posts from individual students?

thanks.
Brian

I hate to say 'no' to all your questions, but I kind of have to. There may be other methods to accomplish your goals though.

1. The thread word limit cannot be increased. Not sure what the assignment is, but could you not have the students post their responses on a page instead? If you describe the assignment that this would be necessary for, maybe I can help you find an alternative method.
2. Posting blindly is kind of counteractive to the 'wiki' concept, so this is not possible. I assume you don't want students to be able to copy other students' work before they discuss the assignment? Maybe there can be a 10 minute window just before the assignment is due for posting. This should prevent copying due to time constraints. Or you could have them e-mail their responses to you and you can post them all at once.
3. Color coding does not function in threads, but the names appear so you will know who made posts. As for edits on the page, auto color coding cannot be done. I would assign each student a color that they would be required to use.

Once again, sorry for all the disappointing responses. I hope the suggestions helped anyway.

thanks sacapp for the suggestions.
1. Isn't there also a 2000 character limit on pages too? I'd like them to post their essays (400 - 1500 words), but dont think pages have the capacity.
2. you get the idea. time constraints may work for in class stuff, but the idea is to stimulate peer review and response to answers of others. emails would work, but take too much time to post, but possible for longer term projects like major essays.
3. yourcolor suggestion has been working well so far. thanks.

OTHER QUESTION - is there anyway to increase the size limit from 2MB to 5 or 10? if not, what app/site would you suggest for posting power points. idrive?

Many thanks for your time and suggestions.

There is no character limit for content added within the body of the editable page.

The 2MB attachment limit is fixed for now. If you need more storage capacity check out something like box.net. You can even embed it on your Wetpaint site as a widget.
