ads in left pane running very slowly
Aug 22 2008, 12:35 PM EDT I have had many complaints on my wiki "curioshop.wetpaint.com" from users about the pages loading extremely slowly. A few people have pointed me to the fact that the ads below the navigation bar take forever to load. I am now also noticing this myself. The wiki pages will load in about 2 seconds and it takes almost 10 seconds longer to load the ad. This is very frustrating for all of my users, and me because I need to deal with them. The old "non picture" ads seemed to load quickly. It is the new fancy picture ads that seem to be the problem. I understand why the ads are there, and I'm all for wetpaint making a it of money for the free service, but they need to be faster. I am seriously considering moving this wiki to another service. I'm looking right now. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Aug 23 2008, 12:29 AM EDT I actually tried that already and just played with it some more again. I minimized Top Contributors and it has the same trouble. The ads are now text and seem to be there before the stall. It looks like everything on the page is there before the stall, even the stuff at the bottom. So maybe something else is loading after the page such as the wiki edit application maybe??? The processor fan kicks on everytime it reloads a page. XP Professional 5.1.2600 SP2 IE 7.0.5730.13 All caches cleared. Is there any flash helper application information I could provide? One more piece of info. Since everything else on the page seems to be loaded before the stall, I went ahead and maximized Top Contributors again. I hit reload. Everything on the page came up including the larger Top Contributor pictures. The smaller Top Contributor pictures did not come up though. The smaller pictures became visible at the exact same time the stall ended. Is it possible that even though Top Contributors is minimized it is still loading but just not being displayed? Do you find this valuable? |

Aug 23 2008, 12:34 AM EDT That last detail about the smaller Top Contributors images is very repeatable for me. They pop up right as the stall is done. Entire webpage + 4 large Top Contributor pictures came up before the stall. then stall 6 small Top Contributor pictures appear Over and over again I can repeat the same thing. Do you find this valuable? |

Netscape 7.1 Firefox 2.0.0.13 With both, I do notice a slight stall on the top contributor images but it is about 1 second instead of 10 seconds. It would be interesting if the Top Contributors could be removed, then try it all again. Do you find this valuable? |

Sep 7 2008, 11:15 AM EDT This is all still a huge problem. Now editing of the pages is terribly slow with IE. Maybe some more testing is needed on some of these new features before they are installed to the general population. Do you find this valuable? |
