What happens when you ban someone?

I get that this means the person can no longer interact with the site. If it is a private site, does that also mean the banned person cannot even read the content? Thanks! 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

That's correct. Members that have been banned from a private wiki can no longer view the content. 2  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

Yes, but is the banned person still on the Members page? In other words, I would like to remove a user from our private wiki (this person accepted my invitation but then dropped the class), so their member information is no longer in the wiki. Is this possible?

A Moderator or higher can view the "Banned Members" section of the members page. But no one else can.
