Uploading photos from behind a proxy server. Error 407!
Aug 14 2008, 8:03 PM EDT
Background, have been uploading (from my machine and embedding Yahoo) photos to my wikis (5 of them) from a direct internet connection and behind a proxy with no problems since the beginning of the year (last successful upload of a new photo from behind proxy was 3/6/08).

Last couple of weeks I have been unable to upload any photos from my machine while behind the proxy server. Size is okay, tried several browsers (Firefox and now Flock), can embed from Yahoo search, but get an Error 407 when I try to upload pictures from behind the proxy server (Mac OS 10.5 + Leopard Server) only. Can still upload photos from home with a direct connection.

I have talked to my IT dept (independent school) and they have not made any changes of late that would affect this.

FYI, Text and YouTube embeds are being saved fine. Problem seems independent of which wiki, machine or profile permissions. Have narrowed it down to proxy settings.

Any suggestions?

At school I (and my students) am behind a proxy server. This has not usually been a problem until recently.......as Murphy's Law would have it, now I am wanting students to post their own photos onto my wiki (mrhscience8.wetpaint.com). Just leaving it until home is not an option as half my students are boarders living behind (in an online sense of the word) the proxy all the time.

Not confident about publishing our port publically without the consent of my IT dept.

That aside, why would the 407 error be coming up now? Still using the same port for the last six months! What changes have you made your end?

Thanks for your willingness to help.

Having talked to my IT dept, they have not changed anything this end.

Using a non-proxy computer is not a solution as I have 100+ students needing to do the same thing from behind the proxy.

My question is, why now after is was fine before? When did Wetpaint upgrade servers, new release etc?

I will unfortunately be looking to another wiki if we cannot resolve this (eg, can upload images to wikispaces from behind proxy). Wetpaint just looks better and has other functionality I want to utilise.
