How to change the Admins user name?
Jul 23 2008, 11:27 PM EDT
I just created my second wiki. I came directly to wetpaints homepage and started a wiki from scratch. When I was asked if I already had an account I acknowledged that I did. I don't see anywhere in wiki #2 under the settings or my profile where I can change my user name to be uniqe to wiki #2. In wiki #2 all users will be acknowledged by their real name. Ideally when creating wiki #2 when I was asked if I was an account holder I should have declined so I could use my real name and not my screen name from wiki #1.Any help would be appreciated. 4 out of 5 found this valuable. "User names cannot be changed. "Sorry buddy but that really sucks. I joined my first wetpaint site using my family nickname as a username. I now want to start a more professional site and am stuck with a hardly-very-professional username. I'll put this comment in your feedback. If you take your feedback at all seriously, changing this username policy would be a serious improvement. (Incidentally, I'm a different Anonymous to the initial poster who seems to have the same problem) 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I also have set up using a name that now needs to be more professional and many of my friends feel the same way. This is something that needs to be looked at and sorted for those who want to be more professional when using wetpaint. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Maybe a once or twice per YEAR change could be allowed within the same site. There definitely should be an option to change just your displayed ID on different wiki's if you are on more than one (with the same limitations on number of changes), it could looked at as a matter of privacy. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. I joined the True Blood wiki as TrueBlood2009, then the Anita Blake wiki, then the American Idol wiki, then The Tudors wiki, then the Dark Blue wiki and all of my wiki's show my profile page I.D. as TrueBlood2009. I hate this. I would rather have a unique name for each wiki, but don't have a gazillion email addresses to use. Do you find this valuable? |

hi person....What yoy can do is go to one of your future existing websites and go to your profile, instead of changing the username you could delete your account and start a new one... Do you find this valuable? |

But then if they where creator or mod+ then they wouldn't be anymore. But if they are a RU, then I think it would be fine. Do you find this valuable? |

"But then if they where creator or mod+ then they wouldn't be anymore. It is kind of a complicated process, but it can still be done. Simply create the new account that you desire, use a fake email like this 37463@company.com. Have your new account join the wiki that you are an admin or moderator of. With your original account, have it promote your new account to either to a moderator or administrator depending on your rank. Change the email on your original account to another fake email. You can now log into your new account, change the fake email you supplied earlier with your actual email. You now have full permissions that you had before, and your actual email. The only bad thing is that you won't keep all your contributions from your original account. If you are a creator, move your account up to admin and demote all your current admin to moderators. That way you still have full control of the site. It isn't necessary, but you can cancel your account if you wish. Do you find this valuable? |

"I know...that's the bad thing."True, it is a bad thing. However you could link to your old account on your profile. You probably should do this anyways, so members do not think a random member was just promoted for no reason. Do you find this valuable? |

Well I am not an administrator anyway and I have put too much work into my fan site profile pages to just start over with fake email accounts. I just wish that Wet Paint had thought of this in the beginning and let each person have an email sign in with a password and use a unique i.d. name for the profile page. Or, they could explain when signing up for Wet Paint account that the profile name would be used for every wiki page created and that way, the person could set up their profile with a more generic name. That way I could have just been "ArkansasFan" or something like that instead of "TrueBlood2009" on the "Dark Blue" fan site.

"ok, now imagine this. if my wiki name is mywiki.wetpaint.com. and i want to make it into mywiki2.wetpaint.com. is that possible???"No, at this time it is not possible for you to change your URL. You would have to create a new site or buy a Custom Domain name for such a change to occur. Custom Domain: http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/Custom+URL Do you find this valuable? |

"ok, now imagine this. if my wiki name is mywiki.wetpaint.com. and i want to make it into mywiki2.wetpaint.com. is that possible???"You cannot change the site URL. To do this, you would have to create a new site called mywiki2.wetpaint.com. However, if you wanted to, you can buy a custom URL and change mywiki.wetpaint.com to mywiki2.com or something like that. To get to the point, you cannot change your site URL unless you buy a custom URL or make a new site.
