Maintenance Notifications
Jun 27 2008, 3:55 PM EDT I am searching the site for information on how WetPaint will let users know when maintenance is scheduled. Is there a FAQ or document somewhere that details what notifications are sent and to what audience? Also, in the notice above on this WetPaint Status page, it states that the site will be down on Wednesday at 9pm Pacific but it does not mention a date. And, several hours is a little vague for an outage duration. I would suggest adding the actual date and also stating a more specific duration. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Maintenance Notifications
Jun 27 2008, 4:52 PM EDT We placed a notice on the home page of Wetpaint Central for a few days and we were as specific as we could be about the amount of time sites would be down or in read-only mode. We could have said 2 to 5 hours, but thought that "several" fit the situation better. The actual time was under 3 hours, although some places on the Internet suffered a lag on updating our new location. (FYI, we moved Wetpaint from Texas to Washington.) Considering what we accomplished in 3 hours, I think we did pretty well. Actual down-time was under half an hour. The rest was in read-only mode. We update Wetpaint about once a month, and, since our development is flexible, sometimes dates change at the last minute. This makes it a little hard to pre-announce releases. We release late at night US time, which is when our traffic is at the lowest, to minimize the impact on our users. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Maintenance Notifications
Jun 27 2008, 5:45 PM EDT Thanks for the response. I was not questioning your downtime or ability to perform maintenance well. My question is about notifications. I am the administrator for a couple of wetpaint wikis and I wanted to know the pocess for maintenance notices. 1. Do you send emails out or do you post the notice on the wiki? 2. If you send emails out, does it go to the admins of each site or to all users? Just trying to understand your process so I can better serve the users of my wikis. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Maintenance Notifications
Jun 27 2008, 6:58 PM EDT We don't send out email notifications, but it's an idea we might consider in the future. In general, big issues get posted on the home page of Wetpaint Central and smaller releases get posted on the Notifications page. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
