Image Format Problem
Jun 24 2008, 5:00 PM EDT I tried uploading a PNG image and it turned into a JPEG when it showed up. I know it's large, but it's a sprite sheet. its 1700x2166 and is 507 kb http://shyguystudios.wetpaint.com/page/%7Ebig+shy+guy+sprite+sheet%7E I'm using Flock on Vista. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Jun 24 2008, 9:39 PM EDT GeneralGuy, it appears that you and Stickmeninc are BOTH correct. Small PNG images are stored as PNGs. Larger PNG images appear to be converted internally to JPEG before saving. I'm not sure where the line is between "small" and "larger," but your sprite sheet definitely seems to fall on the "larger" side of it. Phil Wetpaint QA Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Image Format Problem
Jul 7 2008, 6:15 PM EDT I found the answer: if an image is less than 500KB in size, it will be stored as-is. If it's larger, it will be converted to a JPEG using fairly aggressive compression, and probably losing some detail in the process. So if you want to preserve the detail and original format of your images, they must be under 500KB. Thanks for bringing this question up -- I always enjoy having a reason to learn something new about our system! Phil Do you find this valuable? |
