Invites Not Arriving

Hello...

My wiki is 3121.wetpaint.com, a site I use for a journalism class at Florida International University. I've sent membership invitations to my students three times in the last three days and none have arrived. School uses a customized version of Gmail for student e-mail services. They've checked to see if was delivered to spam folder, but no. At least some have added invite@wetpaint.com and info@wetpaint.com to their contact lists. I sent an invite to my own Gmail account and it arrived.

It's a mystery. Help!!!

Hi Neil,

I am the email manager at Wetpaint. Sorry your class is not receiving their invitations! I know we aren't having any email delivery problems at Gmail right know, but you mentioned your school uses a customized version of Gmail. Perhaps there are different security settings on that system that prevent your class from receiving email from Wetpaint.

There are a few options.

1. You could send invitations to alternate email addresses for your students (outside of the University's security filters).

2. You could make your site public (not private) for a small window of time, allowing your students time to visit the site and join w/out receiving an invitation. After everyone has joined you could turn the site back to private.

3. You could contact your systems administration and ask them to allow or "whitelist" email coming from the domains wetpaint.com and wetpaintmail.com. They might also need an IP address, which is 72.32.211.141.

Hi Neil

I too have a private site. I really want it private, so I don't want to put the name here, nor do I want to make it public for a small window of time. I have a small section of faculty that I have sent inviations to--all are an .edu address, and some have received it and some have not. For those that have not, I asked for personal email addresses at yahoo, hotmail. gmail and the like, and those have not arrived either. None of this appears related to their end of things. Can you help me is some other way. Can I contact you with the wiki address so it will not be on this list?

Our wiki is for a girl's softball team. The addresses are not school related. Some are receiving and some are not. I have resent numerous times. Many of them are centurytel emails, but not all? If I am following this right, they each need to contact their email provider and request that the domains be whitelist? Do you find this valuable?

Previous anon poster: the best answer I can give you right now is "maybe." If we knew which wiki you were talking about we could look up information about the invitations you've sent and tell you whether any had been bounced. If you don't want to post the wiki name here, you can PM it to me or KimberlyB.

APLeC: The same goes in your situation. Please advise either me or KimberlyB which wiki you're having problems on, and we'll be able to look for specific delivery failures.

In both cases, delivery failures would occur for one of two reasons: either the address is incorrect, or the ISP is rejecting email from us. The first one is easier to deal with, but the second one can also be fixed, with cooperation from the expected recipient.

I think that is because you are sending some of the invitation emails to Yahoo! mail. Sometimes, Yahoo! mail users can't recieve Wetpaint emails. Also try checking the spam and trash folders. I suggest you send them to Hotmail and Gmail users instead. Do you find this valuable?

Yahoo often moves wetpaint emails into the spam folder. Tell your people to check their spam folders. Do you find this valuable?
