Deleting user accounts on wetpaint sites
May 13 2008, 10:33 AM EDT I signed up for a wetpaint site sometime back and subsequently deleted my account. Now I can't use my email address to sign up for a different wetpaint site, because I'm being told the email is already in use. What is so hard about deleting email addresses that are attached to canceled wetpaint memberships? I contacted wetpaint about the problem a week ago, and they still haven't responded. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

May 13 2008, 10:52 AM EDT Your account on that wiki is canceled, but your Wetpaint account is still active. You don't have to sign up for another account to join another wiki. Just sign in and join. 1 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Deleting user accounts on wetpaint sites
May 14 2008, 12:00 AM EDT Jason_wetapint, my wetpaint account isn't still active. If I try to use the old username and password, I'm given this response at sign in, "We could not find an account with the username and password you provided. Please try again or, if you are a first-time visitor, create a new account." If I try to create a new username and password, I can't use my email address. The username and password have been deactivated, but the username and original sign-up email address are no longer available to reuse. Wetpaint's database of defunct, deactivated usernames is not deleting the previous account information (usernames, email addresses) out of the system so they can be used again. Likewise, they can't be reactivated like you claim. The only option appears to be using a new email address and new username, which is a pain in the ass. 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

May 14 2008, 1:12 AM EDT You haven't told me what your username is, so i can't go into the database and check it. What I can tell you is that your Wetpaint User Account is still active, even if you canceled your membership on a specific wiki. Have you tried Forgot Password? 0 out of 1 found this valuable. May 15 2008, 10:42 AM EDT Apparently, I still have 2 usernames active even though I thought I canceled the accounts. I'd like them both purged from the database if possible. Thank you. bud_dha Hyun-Sun 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Deleting user accounts on wetpaint sites
May 15 2008, 11:42 AM EDT I hope you understand why we won't be able to remove user accounts based on an anonymous request. If you'd like to cancel your memberships, please log in, go to your profile pages on wikis you are a member of, and press the Cancel Membership button. 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Deleting user accounts on wetpaint sites
May 15 2008, 6:31 PM EDT I already did all that. The accounts are still active, but I'm not an actual member of any wikis. Why would you ask me for the usernames and then tell me you can't do anything about it? I already sent an email to the contact wetpaint link at the bottom of this webpage - NO RESPONSE! I POSTED HERE TO DELETE THESE ACCOUNTS AND GET RID OF MY EMAIL ADDRESS FROM YOUR DATABASE! "OH, BUT YOU HAVE TO JOIN ANOTHER WIKI TO DO THAT; WE DON'T HANDLE ANONYMOUS REQUESTS!" WETPAINT IS F***ING USELESS! IF THEY BOTHERED TO ANSWER MY ORIGINAL EMAIL, WHICH WASN'T ANONYMOUS, WE WOULDN'T BE HAVING THIS "DISCUSSION". STOP WASTING MY TIME! Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Deleting user accounts on wetpaint sites
May 15 2008, 7:55 PM EDT We show record that we did respond to your email a few days ago (to your yahoo address). Sorry if you didn't get it. Our intern (also named Sean) explained that Wetpaint does not delete accounts and that if you would like to create a new account yet use the same email address that was on the old account you would need to change the email address that is associated to the old account first. When you cancel membership to a site it removes that account from the site and unsubscribes the email address on that account. The account still exists and can be used to go to some other site on the network and join it. You've created two accounts on Wetpaint so far: "bud_dha" and "Hyun-Sun" If you want to go ahead and create a third but use the email address that is on one of those accounts then you'll have to sign back in with one of those accounts (you can do it right here on Wetpaint Central) and change/remove the email address. Once the email is no longer on the old account you can create a new username with the email address. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Deleting user accounts on wetpaint sites
May 15 2008, 10:49 PM EDT Not only did you NOT send an email respone, you've done nothing to resolve the problem. There is no way to access account information by signing into this or any other wetpaint site. If it were that simple, would I still be posting here? Pray tell, just where exactly is it that my account information can be accessed? These are the facts: 1) Signed in: bud_dha no link to account/user information for update/edit 2)My Wetpaint -> My Wikis or Create Your Own Wiki -- no thanks, just delete my account information. What's the threshold for abuse before I'm banned. Perhaps that's the easier option at this point. Then we can all go back to our lives. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Deleting user accounts on wetpaint sites
May 16 2008, 1:36 AM EDT Yes, we did send that email, and we have the records to prove it. Swearing at us won't resolve any issue. You've already canceled your accounts. Banning you would do nothing. If you wish to change any of the information associated with your user record: 1. Log in on any Wetpaint wiki. 2. Join the wiki. (you must have an active account to modify your user information) 3. Go to your profile page. (Click your name, then click Profile on the popup) 4. Click on Account Information or Change Email Address. 5. When you're done, Cancel the membership and repeat these steps for any accounts you have. Goodbye. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Deleting user accounts on wetpaint sites
May 16 2008, 6:17 AM EDT 2. Join the wiki. (you must have an active account to modify your user information) Are you for real? How can I change the account information or email address if the account isn't active? I can log in with my accounts, but guess what? I CAN'T CHANGE ANY OF THE INFORMATION! DELETING THE ACCOUNT DOESN'T CHANGE ANYTHING! Instead of wasting more time showing me records of ghost emails, give me a contact person's name at Wetpaint customer service, and I will send an official document through registered mail requesting that my accounts and associated personal information get deleted properly. Is this address still valid: wetpaint.com, inc. Attn: Customer Service 307 Third Avenue South, Suite 300 Seattle, WA 98104? Or, should I keep logging into other wikis to update my canceled memberships? Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Deleting user accounts on wetpaint sites
May 16 2008, 8:53 PM EDT This is what I did according to your sage, yet ineffective advice: 1) logged in to wetpaintcentral with one of the 2 usernames, which have supposedly been canceled 2) joined this wiki as you recommended 3) went to the profile page 4) changed the associated email accounts in Account Information AND Change Email Address fields (on separate log ins, because the site requests logging in again even though at the top of the page it clearly states you're still logged in....) 5) I canceled the membership for both accounts. 6) I performed steps 1-5 using Mozilla Firefox and IE7 for BOTH accounts. Not once was the email address changed for either account. I went back multiple times to check that it had been entered and save to a different email address. It hadn't. I canceled BOTH memberships; they're STILL ACTIVE. Do you think I'm stupid and can't follow directions? Do you get paid for this job or is it a volunteer position? Is wetpaint.com, inc. a for-profit company or a charity? If someone verifiable has requested you delete his/her account information, then that's exactly what should happen. It's a matter of privacy, and the request should be honored. YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE, WHICH IS HAVING THE EMAIL ADDRESSES ASSOCIATED WITH BOTH USER ACCOUNTS DELETED. The next step is legal paperwork and possibly your job on the line. Why am I still able to log in and post if my accounts have actually been canceled? Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Deleting user accounts on wetpaint sites
May 17 2008, 12:03 AM EDT I strongly suggest that you review the Terms of Use for our free product before making any legal decisions. In any case, since our instructions apparently haven't worked for you, I've removed all personal information for your two accounts, changed the passwords, and blocked the email addresses from ever being used to create a Wetpaint account again. Again, goodbye. Do you find this valuable? |
