How can I create an RSS-feed for my wetpaint wiki?
Apr 21 2008, 5:51 PM EDT
I would like to allow visitors to my wetpaint wiki to subscribe to an RSS-feed for the site.

I am not interested in a widget that allows me to post the RSS-feeds of other web-sites onto my wiki page.

Can anyone help?

Go to What's New and then click through the Tabs. There's a number of different RSS feeds available for the various reports. These feeds are not available for Private wikis, however, since that would defeat the purpose of making the wiki private. Do you find this valuable?

I don't see why the RSS feed should be disabled for private wikis. It's a feature that is as useful, if not MORE useful for private wikis, since the content on these wikis is more important than that on public wikis.

Other packages (like TWiki) offer an RSS feed with a login in this case.

Would it be possible to have it for private wetpaint wikis as well? I could certainly use this option.

Authenticated RSS isn't a common standard, yet, but we're keeping an eye on it.

Putting a non-authenticated RSS feed on a private wiki would enable anyone to access the content on those RSS feeds, which includes site content and user comments. That would expose the private content to anyone.

I agree that unauthenticated RSS would be a bad idea since it defeats the purpose of having the wiki private.

Authenticated RSS on the other hand would add some power to the private wiki. It is an excellent way to get notified quickly when some high-value information on your wiki is added...and in general, it will help to keep people more involved in the wiki.

I'm also running a TWiki under Apache as a personal wiki, and it's behind HTTP Authentication. When I subscribe to the RSS (which is also behind that login) i have to give my username and password first.

Are there any big differences between the authentication mechanism of wetpaint and HTTP Authentication that would prevent such a setup from working?
