AArrggh. Whats happened to your ads??
Apr 20 2008, 9:15 AM EDT I think Wetpaint is great. I appreciate you need to place adverts to make money. Up until recently your ads were Google text ads, which was fine - not too obtrusive and had a product that was to do with the subject of the site. But NOW - flashing, eye distracting ads about any old subject you care to mention. Is this just a trial - or is it here to stay - in which case I'm not. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Apr 20 2008, 1:04 PM EDT Spot on - I thought Wetpaint were using Google text ads - these flash adverts completely spoil it all. Do you find this valuable? |

Apr 21 2008, 5:35 AM EDT I agree. Is it me, or does Wetpaint not state that they will only use Google text ads? Do you find this valuable? |

Apr 21 2008, 1:26 PM EDT We’re testing display banner advertising across the Wetpaint network of sites because we’re committed to keeping Wetpaint a free service. The way we defer the costs of Wetpaint is by placing advertising on your Wetpaint sites. Until now, we primarily used Google advertising. Recently, Google made a significant change to their advertising product. You can read more about the change and its impact on its users on TechCrunch at (http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/02/29/google-ctr-down-due-to-click-area-changes/). During this test, we’ll be trying an assortment of different ad networks to see which provides the best balance between user experience and revenue. To be clear, we find the aggressively flashing, bouncing, and music playing ads to be 100% unacceptable. We’ve made efforts to remove them from the mix. If you see such advertising, please take a screen shot and send it in to us via email. We’ll do what we can to make sure those don’t appear. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: AArrggh. Whats happened to your ads??
Apr 21 2008, 1:44 PM EDT Much of the ads I get are just fish swimming in an aquarium. I prefer the ads I have currently to the google text ones. The old Google ones advertised all my compeditors (my site is about an RPG I made and better RPGs are being advertised). No one would ever click the fish. Is there set ads to a site or are they all pretty similar? Do you find this valuable? |

I found your original Google advertising totally acceptable - you've got to earn a living after all. I'm glad to see you find the all singing, all dancing flashing ads 100% unacceptable and you are taking a very responsible stance in trying to ensure they don't appear. Good for you! 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

May 17 2008, 1:36 AM EDT Okay now I see the rest of the thread... Honestly guys, I know you have to make a living, but I **really** hate this. I was happy with Google ads because they are unobtrusive and do a good job of matching their content to my content. These Flash ads are annoying as spit and will likely mean I take my site elsewhere. On your homepage, there are RPG ads and stuff. I don't think the flash ads are set to a specific to a site, though. I can still see some text ads on some wikis. But they aren't developed. There are a few ad networks that could be used. (Take a look here: http://lists.econsultant.com/top-10-advertising-networks.html ) And sorry for the message. That was stupid of me.
