can't sign in
Apr 2 2008, 4:05 PM EDT | Post edited: Apr 2 2008, 4:05 PM EDT
Every time I try to sign in it tells me that it can't find my username and/or password. I have checked and triple-checked, and I know I am entering them correctly. Nevertheless, the next time I try to sign in it makes me create a new password again.

This may be a bug, I will report it to Jason in a minute.
Also, Double check you don't accidently hit another key or enter, Sometimes the enter key has counted as a character.(Normally Not, Just once in a blue moon.)

I would suggest that when you next login, that you change your password. You'll find instructions on how to do that here: http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/Change+Email%2FPassword 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I have just returned to editing my pages after approx 1 month off. I have found that if I log in (and make changes) and then log out (to review page changes) I can not lot back in again until I delete JUST the jerkalert.wetpaint.com cookies folder under firefox 3.0.4 AND refresh the page I am trying to log on to OR select "forgot password" and reset my log on info.

I keep getting the error "" We could not find an account with the username and password you provided. Please try again or, if you are a first-time visitor, create a new account.""

I KNOW I am typing in the correct log on info. (after i delete the jerkalert.wetpaint.com cookie folder and refresh, the same log on info will now work!?)

I and several of my members have experienced similar problems with the log on process since we started our wiki in July 2008 and I see that this type of problem has existed since last year.

Why do the cookies from wetpaint cause such problems. One should not have to repeatedly delete cookies in order to enter the site multiple times. And why, is the problem so persistent?

The link I posted above is no longer valid. The change password feature in now located in the Account Information tab related to your profile underneath where the option to change your email address is located. Apologies for the mistake. But do try changing it just in case it fixes the problem.

I had no problems signing out and signing back in using Firefox 3.0.4. I just did it.

What Operating System are you using?
Is your browser set up to accept 3rd party cookies?
Are you using the Remember Me option?
Is your computer behind a caching proxy or other network firewall?

Hi Jason Thanks for the speedy reply. I am using win xp 3rd, firefox 3.0.4, my browser is set to accept 3rd party cookies and I don't bother with the remember me option as I clean my cookies, temp and cache files, etc almost every day (but I will try this option and let you know). I am also using zonealarm pro and Eset Nod 32 anti virus. No other firewall or proxy in place. - I just added wetpaint in all its forms to my zonealarm privacy site list to accept any/all cookies, mobile code, web bugs, AND private headers. Will let you know how that effects the situation.

I too have been able to sign back in (or not) but can not get any consistent pattern. EXCEPT, if I delete just the "jerkalert.wetpaint.com cookie folder and then refresh the page. Then I can always sign back in.

Can anyone tell me why this problem is still a problem; I am seeing the same complaint as far back as a year ago and as recently as this month (along with other permutations of same). If my users "bump" into what ever causes this, they won't want to bother with deleting cookies, refreshing pages, changing firewall settings, clicking on reset password (then go check email etc) or whatever else works BEFORE they can get in and add their comments/threads.

Thanks again for being there Jason. Could not do this without you and the rest of the crew! Have a great T- day!

There was a recent problem with ZoneAlarm. Have you updated to the latest version? Do you find this valuable?

I would recommend you get rid of ZA and install the Comodo firewall. It has one of the best ratings in the industry for firewalls at http://www.matousec.com/projects/firewall-challenge/results.php and the best thing of all is it's free! They also have a good support forum @ http://forums.comodo.com/ in case you need assistance or advice. I've been using it myself for several years now and can say from personal experience that it's the best firewall I've ever installed. You can download it from here: http://www.comodo.com/

Comodo derives its income from issuing SSL certificates, so they have plenty of experience in encryption techniques. You've probably seen their logo many times on the bottom right hand corner of secure shopping cart pages but haven't paid much attention to it. SSL certificates cost anything between $150 to $500 per annum.

I can neither log on to wetpaint.com nor fisherkings.webpaint.com (my site), without pretending I have forgotten my password!!! Surely I don't have to do this or do some firewall magic to use my account? I have checked passwords, changed passwords, cleared cookies, changed browsers and so on. This problem has been reported many, many times. Mostly a fix is suggested like the ones I've tried but I've never seen someone write that it was OK and reliable; people just seem to go away. What's going on at wet paint? Is this a bug unfixed after all this time? Like most of us, I expect, I work with many sites requiring sign-in, log-on etc. but this is the only one where this basic function is a persistent problem. Is this the time to start looking at alternative wikis? I'm disinclined to because the rest is OK and I've invested time. Please give me a reason to stay.

you prbably have to delete your cookies for wetpaint. Don't ask me why but that almost always fixes the problem. Except for Jason's post about zonealarm the only advise I have seen from wetpaint is "make sure you are entering the info correctly" or "reset your password" or "delete your cookies"

Now that I know to delete cookies, its fun to see whether my site will trigger my saved user name and p/w or not. It is also a blind draw as to whether other wetpaint sites I belong too will require a relog on or not; you just never know.......
In any case It is a BIG pain in the behind.... and embarrassing to have to tell our users "make sure your info is correct", "reset your password" or "delete your cookies"......
