Multiple accounts with the same username
Feb 20 2008, 3:51 PM EST
I have a problem getting email notifications and have tried everything suggested. Then I saw that somehow, I have two "invitees" (accounts I set up for my kids), that have the same userid as I have (the creator). One is Admin and one is registred user. and I of course am admin. This may be my notification problem. Does anyone out there know how to get rid of duplicate "invitees" that have registered as my userid. Maybe I have goofed up my own status as administrator. It is not possible to have more than one account with the same username. What is the site (URL) this situation on? What is your username? 0  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

Jeremy, I came back to this post to see if anyone had responded. I definately have multiple users with the same username. Maybe we have a terms conflict. I have many "users" (each with a different email address) that my invitee list says are registered as "Harens". That is what I mean by multiple users with the same profile. I think my problems with email niotification started whien I did this. You sent me another email ivite from my site to dave.harens@gmail.com but when I accepted, it (or I) automatically took gave me the " profile again. I really need help here. Do you find this valuable?

Jeremy is correct when he says that multiple users cannot share email addresses or user names. It's impossible because our database forces those fields to be unique.

What's happened to you is that you've accepted multiple invitations (3 of them - 2/8, 2/9, and 3/5) with the same account. That's fine. It doesn't mean that you have multiple accounts. The invitations list merely shows you which email address the invitation was sent to and which account accepted it. If you're using the same computer for multiple accounts, make sure you Sign Out before accepting an invitation.

Now, to your original problem - What notifications aren't you receiving?

I agree Jason, but could this still be the core of my email notification problem. I got a notification of your post so I know it that works from your site but I cannot get one to work from my site. I realize now, that I had not signed out before accepting the invitation so it did not allow me to set up a separate profile. Can you send me still another invitation from my site "harens.wetpaint.com" (Jeremy had already done this, but I accepted while signed in). This time I will make sure I am signed out, then set up a non "harens" profile as admisnistrator, then I will cancel the membership of anyone or anything associated with "harens". maybe that will fix my email notiofication problem that Jeremy has been trying to help me fix (you cvan see the thread under "no email notification". What do you think? Based on your respone, I would not think this would have any effect, but I am willing to try anything. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

It is definitely not the source of your issues. Our system has sent 165 notifications, invitations, forgotten passwords, and welcome emails from your wiki. Please check your Comcast email accounts.

Since one of your accounts is an Administrator, you can send an invitation yourself to any new email address you wish.

I forgot to tell you that I had recently changed my email address from Comcast to Gmail (then I have gmail set up to forward all messages to my comcast email) to avoid any problems (still not email from my site, but it did fix my email problems with your site). Today I contacted Comcast and they gave me this very technical answer about reverse DNS servers and how Comcast blocks some email servers that don't have their systems configured correctly. Please take a look at::(https://www.comcastsupport.com/sdcxuser/asp/frameset.asp?mainframe=%2Fsdcxuser%2Frrn%2Fissue%5Fnew%2Easp%3Fcontact%5Fmethod%3D1%26Kernel%3A%3AKernel%3A%3Asik%5Fiss%5Ftype%3D532e4bdb%2D7013%2D458e%2D8dae%2D913af560907b)
Now I notice something on your newletter that says if you want ensure reciept of emails, add no-reply@wetpaintmail.com to my address book. Can you tell me why I need this and how it effects my email and do I need to do it for both my comcast and gmail sites. This issue is starting to seem overwellming to me.

So how do I delete the additional email addresses without deleting the Profile? My wife invited her grandkids to join and she wasn't signed out when they accepted the invitation. It seems like there should be a popup or something to alert you that this is happening, or at least get a prompt to see if that is what you really want to do.

RE: Multiple accounts with the same username..can't be right!
Nov 6 2008, 10:33 PM EST
I get gmail emails belonging to other people that apparently have the same user name. I receive bank statements, credit card statements (complete with valid numbers!) and all sorts of email that don't belong to me! Additionally, when I tried to create a YouTube account using my gmail account during sign-up, I get an error saying that my email name is in use by TWO other YouTube users!
What's up? I have had my account since the beta and invitation only days.

There is no support link for gmail. I don't use this account for anything confidential but its pretty funny that I am getting all this personal information that belongs to others.

Any ideas?
