No Email Notifications
Feb 19 2008, 8:52 AM EST | Post edited: Feb 19 2008, 8:52 AM EST
I know there are many of these posts already but I have yet to find a solution that works for me, so I am reposting the problem. I used to get notifications by email whenever someone made any change to any page or thread. I have checked all the boxes properly and have made sure no spam issues, I tried the sending messages to myself but that was not really my problem - that works fine. I also noticed that in my email setup, the "retype your email address" box was empty so I did it again and resaved. I thinik I have done any suggestion that I have found and still no notifications are coming. my site is harens.wetpaint.com Do you find this valuable?

Thanks Josh, but I had already done these sprocedures and I still get no notifications. I have checked all the boxes necessary and only those suggested in the forum. I reset my email account twice and still no notifications. Again, I can send messages to myself and my wife can also send me messages, but when she updates the pages or threads, I get no email. JOsh, I do not know if you are a part of Wetpaint or not but if you are, I saw other posts where they were able to check to see if messages (notifications) were being sent. My account is harens.wetpaint.com. Has amyone solved this problem before? Do you find this valuable?

I may have found "a possible" reason for the problem I noticed that I have two email addresses (my kids) that have my username. Somehow I added them with the samr user id as mine (the owner). I can't believe the wiki site would allow multiple accounts with the same userid. I am in process of cancelling those memberships and trying to get nmoyifications again. A Problem: When I go to "cancel the membership" of these invitees, it obviously goes to my userid since they are registered with my userid. So I do not want to cancel my membership. Does anyone know of a way to handle this problem. (multiple users with the same userid). It may be the reason I am not getting any email notifications! Do you find this valuable?

I don't see any accounts with the same username. I'm making an assumption that I should be looking on your private site at http://harens.wetpaint.com/accountSearch/all

Can you provide more information such as what accounts I should be looking for? I see yours (harens),. and a few similar ones (jmharens, m&mharens, and mharens), but no exact duplicates. Wetpaint won't let you create a username that has already been used.

Thx for your help Jeremy. I am in even more trouble now. The accounts that had my duplicate userid were aaharesn and jdhares. Both are my children that somehow I set up as users with my userid harens. Since I thought this was causing my email notification problem, I then tried to cancel their membership. WRONG, as I thought above, it then cancelled my "harens" membership. So now I have cancelled the "creator" memebrship and cannot get back on. I tried to remember if I had built other users with admin capability but cannot remember. Is there a way to get my userid harens back? Also, even though I am "watching" this page, I got no email notification of your post. That is why it has taken me so long to respond. I hope someone can help, or I have just spnts weeks creating a wiki that I cannot use! Do you find this valuable?

I'm not clear on how you accidentally canceled your membership to the site, but I just sent you an invitation to join the site again as an administrator. You should get it in the next few hours. I can't make you the creator again once you have canceled your membership, but as admin you can do all the same functions. They're different in name alone.

Username accounts exist completely independent of each other. To cancel membership to a site you have to be signed into the account you want to cancel, go to your own profile page, and click the cancel membership button. You can't cancel other users accounts via your account.

Thx again for the help. I have not recieved the invite yet but look forward to it. I will try to explain again how I deleted my username - maybe it will help others avoid the mistake.
First I have 3 email accounts from my provider (1 for me and my two children - harens@comcast.net, aaharens and jdharens at comcast.net. After creating the website, I sent them invitations which I got in my email system (all three come to my Outlook mail client). Somehow, when I responded to the invite, I must have done something to cause the wiki profile to be "harens" in all three cases. TSo then I had three users all with the harens user profile. This did not hamper me except that then I started not to get any email notifications (still don't) on updates for which I had signed up for notification. I tjhought that maybe the cause was the fact I had the multiple users with my profile so I decided to "cancel the jdhares and aaharens users memberships. I did that with one of them by logging on to their userid and password "jdhares" "password" and cancelling the membership. AS soon as I did it, it left me signed on but I could not do anything. I then tried to log on to my creator userid "harens" and password but it would not longer accept it.
I then stated . Since I now have just one of the two duplicates cancelled,if I still get no email notifications, I don't know what I'll do.

Jeremy, again thx. I will set up the invite you are sending me and I assume go through the setup as if I was a new user. I will let you know if this solves my email notification problem. Just the fact my user was cancelled and I have a different setup, maybe it will work. However, I am skeptical because I still do not even get these updates (and I checked again that this is a watched thread for me) Do you find this valuable?

You do not need to create a new account. When you receive the invite just click the link and then choose the option that says you already have a Wetpaint account to sign in using your existing username and password.

FYI - I talked to our email marketing manager today and it looks like we are having some problems delivering to Comcast addresses for some reason. We are trying to work with Comcast to get them to not bounce our email, but in the meantime I would recommend changing your email address on your account to something else (gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc.) so that you can receive any Wetpaint invitations, notifications, or newsletters.

I have set up an alternative email. I would suggest you send the invitation to that email since you are not getting through comcast. The email address is dave.harens@gmail.com. Thx Do you find this valuable?

I just sent you a new invite to your gmail account. You should see it within a few hours.

If you want to put your gmail email address on your existing "harens" account instead of creating yet another Wetpaint username, just follow the instructions on http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/Change+Email%2FPassword

Jeremy. I still do not get email notifications from my site. I did all the above, set up a gmail account and now I get the notifications from this site. I still think it may be because I have multiple users with the same profile - mine called "harens". Could that be it? If it is, is there a way for you to cancel the memberships of all "harens" associated users? I am going to try to set up a user that has admin capability that is not associated with the user profile of "harens". Do you find this valuable?

Somewhat related:

I run small Wiki and I'd like to have notice of chnages email to myself once a day, for ALL pages (not just the ones I "watch" e.g. I'd like to pick the top of my page hierarchy and see everything chnaging below it) , ideally sending out to another address than my own. Is there a way to do that?

Go to the pages you want to receive notifications about, and click "more options" and click "watch page". 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
