E-mail invite not received
Feb 8 2008, 2:30 PM EST | Post edited: Feb 8 2008, 2:30 PM EST
I created a new private Wiki and sent one invitation to a partner in Australia. He never got the invite. I resent the invite and that one was never received either. He has validated that his spam filter did not block it. I sent an invite to myself at an alternate e-mail address and received it. A 50% success rate is not good. I have spoken with others who have tried to create private wikis on Wetpaint and they indicated that they had the same issue.

Can you confirm that the email to gavinwh@tpg.com.au was actually sent?

Thanks,
Doug

No, it wasn't sent. The reason it wasn't sent was that at some point, for some reason, an email to that address bounced. When that happens, we block all emails to that address.

If that person were to log in, he'd see a message telling him to update his email address.

Hi Jason, is there a way for me to give invitees a code or do they have to receive an email generated by wetpaint? Do you find this valuable?

...also, can you reset that email address so i can try it again? It is a valid address. Not sure why it bounced on you. Any chance theres a problem parsing the ".au" URL? Do you find this valuable?

I'm not sure if this works but try sending the email to your email address, it will give you a join link, copy that and give it to the person you want to invite.

I'll try that. Is the join link the same for everyone I invite?

Thanks,
Doug

Every invitation is unique, and they need to be generated by our system. If it an invitation hasn't been used, it can be forwarded to another address without issue. Once it's used, it can't be used again. What Madusha told you to do will work. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I have been having a similar problem. Anyone I invited that has an email address ending in @cyprusinstitute.org has not received the invitation. These are the students for my class (the address is www.hydropollute.wetpaint.com). Before I try Madusha's solution, could you tell me what is causing the problem?

Thanks,
Chris

I am having the same problem as Chris McNamara above. all invites to certain addresses fail to come in. Also, no email notifications come through on their accounts.

This is typically an issue with the email provider or network failing to deliver the message because it thinks it's junk mail. The recipient may need to have the address "invite@wetpaintmail.com" white listed so it can be delivered. Their network administrator should be able to help them do this. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Okay. That's what my gut was telling me, just wanted to investigate on both fronts.

I will work with our IT dept. to see if our corporate filter is pulling it out even before it hits Outlook.

Is this also true for notifciations from "info@wetpaintmail.com"?

This is the response I am getting from our IT side:

Wetpaintmail.com has an RBL (Realtime Black List) score of 52 from the domain Wetpaintmail.com, based on their sending mail server’s IP address.

The RBL is one of the tools T-Mobile uses to identify spam. I would recommend the administrator of the sending server visit http://www.trustedsource.org and enter their servers’ IP address. The graph in the picture will show that a significant amount of spam has been identified. I’d guess this is either because of bulk mail sending out from itor possibly a zombie on the network sending spam messages. Either way, it will heighten the RBL score. We quarantine anything with a TOTAL score of 50, so these email are getting quarantined from the get go. To properly address this issue, the owner would need to contact the owner of the TrustedSource.org domain @ trustedsource@securecomputing.com. I’d recommend reaching out to your contact at Wetpaintmail.com as they may be having the same issues at other domains -

(conitnued)

What is Trusted Source?
The TrustedSource Portal data is powered by Secure Computing's TrustedSource global threat correlation engine. In addition to general ISP spam data, which is largely consumer centric, TrustedSource receives and analyzes billions of messages per month from Secure Computing's network of more than 4000 IronMail Gateway appliances deployed globally. Like a virtual credit agency, TrustedSource assigns a reputation score and further classifies senders as good, bad or suspicious based on an in-depth analysis by processing more than a dozen behavior attributes to profile each sender. TrustedSource is the first and only reputation system to combine traffic data, whitelists, blacklists and network characteristics with the unparalleled strength of Secure Computing's global customer base. As opposed to other offerings that do not integrate reputation into the spam scoring, TrustedSource data provides the most accurate and effective spam blocking.

If you think you’re on this list in error, you’re encouraged to have your IT folks contact them at trustedsource@securecomputing.com to state your case.

Hi Carrie,

We have tried to make our case with Trusted Source, but they have been very reluctant to help us improve our ranking unless we subscribe to their paid service or some such nonsense. Wetpaint only sends email to members that have registered and thus opted in to our email, so I'm not quite sure how we ended up with such a bad rating through Trusted Source. My trust in their ratings would be better described as skeptical.
