Still not a complete BACKUP missing everything else......
Feb 7 2008, 10:28 AM EST | Post edited: Feb 7 2008, 10:28 AM EST
This is not a backup it is more like a pacifier, the HTML links words are nice to have but everything else is MISSING from the backup. The back lacks the photos, attachements, downloads, everything else that makes the web the web.

Hoping you get it right soon as I love webpaint I just worry about losing everything, it has happened before and will happen again I am sure the question is will we be ready.

Images, widgets, tables, text, links, and text formatting are all included in the backup. Almost anything that's put into the Easy Edit editor will be included. After talking to many users about this feature, it was this content that was most important to them.

Attachments aren't included, and I don't know what you mean by downloads. If there's a page with images that aren't being included, please let me know what the URL is.

I have just done a BackUp of one of my sites as I would hate to have to set it up again. While the photos are missing, the widget info for YouTube videos are all good. Better than having to start from scratch though.

Should there be a folder of images included in the zip file?

I too love all the functionality in wetpaint. But am very concerned about disaster recovery. Is there any way to easily `restore` a site?
Also, if I lose my user's email addresses I'm sunk. Can those be exported?
Thanks.

We do not expose user email addresses to anyone for any reason.

We're working on a more complete backup feature for a future release.

"We're working on a more complete backup feature for a future release."
When please? and will you also create a restore process? Without it you've only done half a job. Could you also include email addresses in an encrypted form in the backup that can only be used by yor restore process?

"We're working on a more complete backup feature for a future release."
Backup saves only HMTL, not photos. (Links to photos are included in the HTML, but not the JPGs.) Therefore sites cannot be copied onto CD or DVD and displayed off line.

Has there been progress in the past year in providing a more complete backup?

One poster in this Discussion Forum suggested using "File - Save Page As" but this saves only the current page, not the complete site, contrary to what the poster said.

Thanks.

There's really no need to backup user email addresses.

Although Wetpaint does not offer anything other than straight html with no CSS nor JavaScripting in its backup. Nor does it offer a restore capability.

Splats2 is working on it...All that needs to be done is to finalize the testing and have instructions drawn up to
* Backup threads
* Backup member profiles
* Backup photos
* Backup Albums
* Backup Videos
* Backup Attachments
* Backup entire site
And methods to restore them to your wiki if needed. Give me a couple of weeks to finish this, year long quest. The methods already exist. All that needs to be done is to white paper the instructions.

Would love to see the complete back as you describe above. Love Wetpaint - it's great, but completing this feature makes the site reusable. Any idea of when this functionality might be available??
Cheers!
