Attaching files within a thread
Feb 1 2008, 6:16 PM EST
Is it possible to attach files within a thread? In order to maintain the structure of my wiki, the members of my wiki add information through threads with the pages being used to maintain the structure of the information. However, I can't see how to attach files as they seem to be attached to pages directly. I want the ability to control the structure of the wiki (either by locking pages or only inviting members as registered users) but still allow people to add information and attach files. Am I missing something. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

You currently can not attach files to threads but a great idea would be to link to a attached file on a thread. Do you find this valuable?

Thanks for the reply. I tried creating a URL link within a thread as then I could easily store the files off site. However, the URL won't automatically take you to the web page, you have to copy it to your browser which makes it too much of a pain. Is it possible to directly link from a thread to an external url page? This would also get around the limits of attachments. I like a lot of things in wetpaint but if I can't get around the attachment problem I'm forced to find another wiki solution. Do you find this valuable?

Due to spamming you can not have off site direct links. Wetpaint may offer a feature that allows you to choose whether you want to direct link or not to Mods & Up in the near future.
Sorry but there is no other way, you might be able to think of some ideas like making a "Resources" page for each thread and make the page uncategorized so it is not shown up in the navigation. You can then link to that page and have all the download links up there. That is just one of the ways you could do this. I'm sure you'll be able to think of something.
