Don't hide the tag cloud! Put it on the home page.
Jan 20 2008, 3:16 AM EST Tags are useful, but they're much more useful if you can see them. Make the tag cloud easier to display! For example, you could put a "Display tag cloud" button right beneath the search box, or put the entire tag cloud on the home page! (It should be on the left, because that's for navigation. You could make room for it by moving "Top Contributors" and such to the right side.) I didn't even know about the tag cloud until I had been using "my" wiki for a while (the wiki that I'm a member of...). Sometimes it was there, but usually not. I've used them on other sites and found them useful, so I wanted to use it here, but I could never find it. After a while I figured out that it appears AFTER you do a search. I don't know of any other way to display it. Even after you figure that you have another problem. If you use a good search term when you want to display the cloud, then Wetpaint will make a slow time-consuming search just to show it to you. I work around that by searching for something that I know Wetpaint can quickly figure out isn't there, for example zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. That takes me to a "0 occurences found" message quickly, and so the tag cloud is displayed quickly as well. Please make it easier! 6 out of 6 found this valuable. Do you? |

Apr 18 2008, 5:13 PM EDT Tag clouds are an efficient for new visitors to a site to see what a site is about. Showing the tags prominently on the home page helps with this. I think MSW has a great point. Do you find this valuable? |
